Keep in mind the megapixels have very little to do with what you're noticing. You're seeing some good framing from someone with a creative eye and the "POP" from his use of Depth of Field. Ambient light also helps quite a bit too.

What you're seeing on screen are down sampled to about 1.2mp's with some Post Processing. Just noting all this so that the myth of more and more megapixels doesn't blind everyone.

Non DSLR cams that many folks use typically don't offer the Depth of Field like you're seeing. You can get a similiar result if you use a longer zoom on such a camera, but then the Field of View is changed and your subject may appear slightly out of perspective. Non DSLR's also don't offer higher ISO shots and hand-held low light ability like DSLR's either.

Shoot with a full frame DSLR and a wide open lens at say f/1.2 - f1.8 and you'll really see images and subject Pop out at you with :D

Nice shots Chris. Very nice. Too bad you're a Nikonian ;) j/k of course.

Chris - What res/megapixel are those pictures taken at? The clarity is amazing.
