CJINOHIO03
Saying they reported how much your last years state refund was to the IRS. Is this something new? Do you have to pay tax this year on it?

TurboRust
yeah its the same as its been they just send it to you on paper now. you always have had to claim you state return as income for the next year.

I believe that only applies if you include state/local taxes paid on an itemized deduction return. I've been using the standard deduction exclusively, and neither TurboTax nor TaxCut have ever asked about prior year state refunds.
evan9381
i got something from gahanna...i THINK it was a 1099g. havent looked into it too much though i only use the 1040ez, or answer whatever questions turbo tax asks me

caseyctsv
If you don't itemize the state refund does not effect you. (1040ez = standard deduction not itemize)
Mark1647545493
TaxAct has asked me for it every year and I've been using it for 5 years now and have been itemizing for 2 years.
TA In Progress
TurboTax asks if you received a 1099-G.... which this form is. KillJoy Agreed - I specifically remember this because I was bitching about having to pay tax on my previous refund.
Dr. Apex
Yeah, it's a crock of shit and Uncle Sam' way of taxing you twice for the same money. It's not income, just money you overpaid to Uncle Sam that you get back.
87GT
You have to claim this as income if you itemize. That is how it works.
