My Radar Dectector Finally died. RIP

Anyone have some opinions on some of the newer ones? I understand the Valentine1 is the best but 4 bills is a little steep in price. Anyone do some recent research on these things? It's been 8 years and 3 cars since I have bought one of these. Maybe point me in the direction of 3 really good models that I could really look into further?

Bel RX Pro Series.

I own the RX65 Pro, and spent three weeks doin g research between it, the V1, and the Passport 8500.

The RX65 took top honors in all detection ranges and environmental factors except the K-Band over a hill. The V1 detected it 50' further.

I love this thing, it goes everywhere with me.

Mine is a POS...Cop standing right there pointing at me and it does NOTHING...These things are hit and fucking miss.

Which one do you have? This is something that I have been pondering over for a while now and I don't want to end up getting on like that.

Yep, and I paid $350 for it when it fist came out. It also has upgradable firmware and a direct-connect to Bel's anti-laser system.

Also, that site is wrong. The unit has 360* detection, which is great because people like John like to sneak up from the rear with their radar on. He likes the rear too.

That is a fair question, I guess up to $250.

Anthony is this it? Is that a fair price?

Valentine one- worth every penny-

Escort in cincinnati ohio basically invented the consumer radar detector with the fuzzbox in the late 70s early 80s. My dad had this one and he and I have had almost every version of the escort detectors since then when they were considered the unparalled best-

However, Mike Valentine a former employee of escort had new ideas, unable to explore them in his current position (he was either let go or quit from escort) he started valentine research also in cincinnati. One of them is called cincinnati microwave I forget which one...

Either way since he branched out on his own his detector has been unbeatable year after year

I have had my valentine one since I was 17 used it daily and it still works fantastic- I dont even speed anymore but it picks them out like it should almost every day. Instant-on and laser are basically unstoppable but with the range of the V1 you are likely to get someone else being picked out in front of you before you are the target--- no chance with other detectors.

I actually let my wife start using it 2 years ago as she has a heavier foor than me and she used to commute to and from dayton daily and it saved her at least 4 times. My dad has upgraded his to the newer model (I think it was like 140.00 upgrade) and his is smaller and has some extra features... he has two of them now and my sister has her own-

I let my brother-in-law borrow it who has used several of the cobra/bel/and another brand I cant remember but in the same price range and he would not give it back to me- it just got awkward asking for it back until he finally caved and offered to buy it from me for 300.00 I declined.

you can't even buy them used cheaply- check out ebay - they hold their value amazingly well and there is a reason for it... if by some stroke of luck you can find one cheap let me know and I will buy it in a heartbeat if you dont want it.

You will not be disapointed.

Oh yeah you can get open box units if you drive to cincinnati for 50.00 cheaper- call ahead though they dont always have them- that is what mine is and it has worked 11 years straight! They will ship the open boxes too but almost everyone happens to be on the way somewhere through cincinnati at some point...

If I still haven't convinced you to get a valentine get an escort they are a strong second best almost always

Escort 9500i

no question, I had the x50 blue then it got stolen upgraded to the 9500i, the GPS feature is genius.

After reading about this one, isn't marking the locations a pain? That's a bunch of money also....

I am liking Anthony's one the best so far, price is good and seems like the best "for the money". Radar Roy says it's good. :)

Anthony does it (RX65 Pro) come with a "hard wired" cord, I don't want to use the cigarette lighter plug in, I use it for my iPhone. :D

Well, I drive 600-1200 miles a week and the RX65 hasn't let me down. I hate my dad's 8500 and the V1 is overpriced, under-performing, and about the size of a brick.

Have you seen a newer one- they are significantly smaller. To each their own. I don't know how you can call the V1 overpriced when they can be had for 350.00 with no shipping as they are "local" when your rx65 cost you 350 + shipping. Interesting also valentines are not on overstock.com. Don't knock if it you have never had one.

The lighter adapter has it's own set of indicators and a mute button.

Smaller or not, the V1 underperforms the RX65. Google.

I saw where you can buy a "hard wire" with the controls on the "hard wire" also for $30.

RX65 = 8500

a few small differances but the capablities are pretty much the same. There owned by the same company now. I know zuht had the RX and the Laser "Shifter" and he had greats ucess including a cop point directly at him shooting on atleast 1 occasion.

I run a Passport 8500. I do not suggest getting a older one as the caps in the laser portion break down and will cuase false lasers on every voltage change. This is fixable but its anooying.

I didn't know Hans had the shifter. Damn, did he sell that too?

I think he did because I really wanted it. The problem was it needed re souldered because somehow he drug it on the ground. I can ask him when I see him this weekend.

on the V1 I just hit mute and it ignores that reading but will alert me should I encounter another one still keeping your bogy silenced. V1 is awesome.

I like driving behind people with one. Ill turn my radar on and off so much that they end up unplugging it because they get annoyed :D hahaha

Yes, but mine does that AND tells me three bands at once, each with it's own signal strength inidicator ;)

I also have auto-attenuate :D
