Who has a Shifter Kart/Rail Buggy/Kit Car?

Hey guys-

Looking for something with four wheels and street legal that is extremely light weight and not too expensive to build that I can scare myself with occasionally-- What is that a rail buggy? Shifter Kart? Kit car?

The closest thing I can find so far is the la bala by graberracing.com but that might be a bit too involved for me with that complex of a suspension from scratch.

Thanks,

Andrew

Check out ultralites, they are lotus 7 replicas with S2000 motors. We work on one at the shop and they are a shit tin of fun. The one we work on weighs about 1400 lbs. I'll get some pics of it up later tonight when i get home from work.

I typically don't like the looks of those locost 7s but the one you posted crossle does look good... I will look into that more...

Dave- I have looked extensively into the monster miata and other swap kits- it is about 25 grand start to finish if done appropriately same with the v8 944s, for that I will buy a used c5 z06. v8 rx7 is the cheapest engine swap project using the FB or FC.

BTW those that are mentioning the hyabusa engine locost I think they are called megabusas.

Thanks!

Andrew

it's still behind the front wheels though...just as the seats/interior are all ahead of the rear wheels. i'd be everything balances out pretty well.

1400lbs, Yoko. r-compound tires, >200hp...I bet that car is a blast to drive.

It's balanced pretty well, we had it on the corner scales last year and i can't remember the numbers exactly. He has a BFG tire now, the r compounds were a little much for street use...he doesn't race it at all.

Sean, as you well know, the Ultralite is not particularly well engineered. The rear suspension is a train wreck. Both of the Ultralite's at the GASS event had their rear suspensions totally reengineered and replaced.

After going over the one at your shop, I would never touch one personally. They do have lots of shiny pieces and look cool; just not a great car for the money.

There are better, less expensive, Lotus 7 clones out there.

Pretty true Rich, lots of neat parts, but designed horribly. We have almost rebuilt everything on it except the motor/trans. Some of the front suspension is from a Fiero, the rearend is a Subaru lol.
