Anywhere to rent a jeep for offroad use?

My mom has gone nuts. A friend of hers died without fulfilling her lifelong dream of owning a jeep. So to make up for it, mom has decided to take a jeep 4 wheeling in her honor.

Of course, I'm all over this proposal.

So where can we locally (less than 100 miles) rent a jeep and take it offroading? Any suggestions? What are the good offroad parks in this area? Can we just go to Hertz or Avis?

if you off road a rental jeep you will pay out the ass to repaint it from scratches etc... buy a cheap $800 jeep and have a field day it will be cheaper

Just buy the extra insurance and clean it up when you're done.I always set mine in my Dads grass by his barn and put a sprinkler underneath it for a while. The mud falls off in clumps.I bet a stock Wrangler will go more places than she is willing to take it.

you dont "clean up" an offroad vehicle....unless she just wants to drive through some dirt....but youre bound to get scratches from tree branches and dents if you misjudge anything or try to squeeze between something, easy to break off a mirror etc...

tell your mom to buy this guys jeep...then when she fucks it up (she will fuck it up, atleast a little bit) she wont pay out the ass to a rental company...extra insurance or not, theyre going to make you pay for it if you damage their vehicle off roading it

Thanks. I've become lazy in my old age.

Also, I would second not doing serious off-roading with anything you're afraid to tear up.

What you or I might consider off roading could very well be different than his moms terms. If she just wants to putt around some trails and little hills, I would just use a damn rental with extra insurance. There are also a good amount of places decently close by to do some little trail riding. I am sure some others can chime in with some more info. On the other hand if you are going to make an event out of it, this may not be the smartest route to take.

You might get in touch with one of the local 4wd clubs, there are a couple of guys on here that are in a club that goes on trail rides every so often. They might be able to arrange for her to ride along, especially since it is in memorial to a friend.

It would be organized and safer to go with experienced people.

I love all of the random offers for sales. Those trucks look like some wild fun.

I think that her idea of "offroad" is what you guys would consider "trails."

Thorne, I watched a couple of those videos. Looks about right for her. Can you point out on google maps or something where you were?

well thats why you pay the extra 20bux a day for insurance and you can bring it back on a flat bed if you want

I have a TJ myself, if she wants to take it out, I know of an awesome place on Brice Road just north of 23, I'd be happy to take her to it and let her play around, as long as I'm around (it's got full coverage, I've already ripped the drivers side mirror off out playing).

You don't have to tell me about "offroading".I have an 85 4runner and just had a 1990 4runner hauled away that I beat to #$%^ in the woods. She should go on a "novice run" with the 4x4 trailriders. http://72.41.91.149/forum/showthread.php?t=6253

if shes just lookin to go muddin or climb hills and stuff then a rental would be fine...but when the guy says he wants to go off roading and gives no details about what he actually wants to do, its hard to just assume he means driving on a trail, giving the advice to rent a car to go off roading isnt always the best thing, depends on his situation , wouldnt wanna tell him oh yea its cool go rent one, then have him make a post about rolling it down a rock pile and asking what to tell the rental company
