BlackMess
I recently bought a 1993 geo prizm. 1.6L 175k miles with a bad tranny. I paid $300.00 for the car and $100.00 for the tranny. I got the tranny in but I tried adjusting the timing and when the car is in perfect time it wont start back up but if i advance it all the way it starts up fine. Cap and rotor looked worn so I replaced them along with the plugs. Wires look newer so I didn't bother. I had the wires jumped in the diagnostic box like it said. Any help would be appreciated. BlackMess
Found out the map sensor was unplugged. Smoothed the car right out. Only problem now is i have a bad sulfur smell and it almost sounds like the cat is ticking also the vehicle will barely rev.

Only problem now is i have a bad sulfur smell and it almost sounds like the cat is ticking also the vehicle will barely rev. If by "smoothed out" you mean "made it run rich as hell" then that all sounds about right. Sulfur from unburned gas and burning cat... ticking cat from fuel burning in cat... won't rev 'cause it's bloody sucking gas up both holes. Could be wrong on that, but from your description this sounds like running rich. Make sure you have the right leads jumpered on the plug, then double check the timing. If you still have to turn the distributor all the way, then something else is amiss... You ARE using an inductive timing gun for this, yes? +1 for someone may have pulled the distributor if the above fails
BlackMess
Managed to get the car running long enough to get a code. It was code 14 (no ignition signal). Ignition control module??? Any ideas what would throw this code? Thanks!
