El Karacho1647545492
So my parents' house in VT has seen a LOT of black bear activity lately. Dunno if its the construction, tough season, whatever the reason the contractors doing work on the house have told us they've seen large bear tracks in the snow on our back deck. So for christmas I'm thinking about getting them something as a "just-in-case" home protection gun, but don't know what to get 'em. My dad's got minimal to no experience so just something that could be locked up 99.999999% of the time and hopefully never ever used. Suggestions? RedRocket1647545505
/thread Fale. No, but seriously. Your basic Remington 870 loaded with slugs would probably be your best bet. Cheap (~$300 new), reliable, and slugs hurt. Or, if you're wanting something compact and otherwise just badass: http://san1.atlanta.gbhinc.com/GB/114459000/114459212/pix193035421.jpg http://san1.atlanta.gbhinc.com/GB/114459000/114459212/pix193035531.jpg or http://san1.atlanta.gbhinc.com/GB/114702000/114702557/pix390095250.jpg http://san1.atlanta.gbhinc.com/GB/114702000/114702557/pix390095187.jpg But those are much more expensive and they're going to hurt like a motherfucker when you shoot them. I'd just go with the 870 + slugs.

El Karacho1647545492
I'd heard 870 before so I was thinking that, though I've never shot slugs before so I might as well take the opportunity to get educated. Now comes the process of convincing my dad to take some classes with me. Thanks for the advice dudes.
RedRocket1647545505
For what it's worth, most Alaskan hunting guides (read; 98% of worlds brown bear population) carry either a shotgun with slugs, or a large caliber revolver, sometimes both. Scotty2Hotty
this looks baller as hell. The marlin guide guns have a smaller barrel, but can pack a nice controlable punch, especially with .45-70 Govt. Rifles aren't frowned on as much as handguns too
