wnaplay1647545503
Back in the day when you couldnt afford expensive whitewalls, they would paint them on. I am considering doing this for my ratrod project. They do make paint just for this but I certainly dont want it to look like shit. If I dont do this, I dont I will be able to find a cheap used set of 13" white walled tires. The rims are going to be red. I could go with just a basic 1" white strip like you see on some tires but that wont look good enough. Anyone have any experience or ever heard of someone doing this? TimTaylor751647545500
Here's a write-up from the Road Devils club: I've heard the pros and cons but thought that maybe someone may fine it usefull. I started out with a cut off disk on a grinder to take the large amount of This is not for everyone. white in the letters. Do not go past the raised letter or you will be tossing the tire in the garbage. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o302/rebstew187/edd.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o302/rebstew187/eeee.jpg Then use a grinder with a sandpaper disk for removing rust and paint. you can roll over the black on the sidewall till it breaks through to the white edge. After you reach the outer edge of the white wall you can then start working your way around the sidewall taking off the black till you can see the white. This takes a long, LONG time!! If it is going really fast for you and a lot of white is showing up right away then you are doing it wrong. Use lighter grit sandpaper. You will end up taking too much off in one spot and you will not be able to tell till it's too late. Slow and easy. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o302/rebstew187/eeeee.jpg when you get to the edge of the white ring that is close to the bead of the tire be carefull not to grind into the bead of the tire or you will have a sealing ploblem then. The inner edge comes pretty close to the bead edge. next I took a die grinder with a worn out gasket remover pad and finished up the black that was left over on the whitewall and last I took a jitter bug sander to smooth it all out. It got dark on me but you can see a little bit of how they turned out. Before you do this to the tires you are going to run, do a few junk tires to get the hang of it. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o302/rebstew187/e.jpg I did these for the 34 after another club member went out and paid over $700.00 for radial wide whites for his car. I went to Pep Boys and picked these up. out the door they where $173.80 for all 4 Out came the grinders and with the money I saved I can put it some place else in the car. After the car gets done I may buy some bias WWW but for now these will do fine. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o302/rebstew187/HPIM2143.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o302/rebstew187/HPIM2142.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o302/rebstew187/HPIM2148.jpg

wnaplay1647545503
Is the in fact white under the black rubber? It may be easier just to paint the damn things.
TimTaylor751647545500
This is an old school method that's been around for a long time. I'm thinking the paint would begin to wear and would need to be touched up regularly. With this method, I think it's more permanent. There's a few other options out there as well. Let me find the guy's myspace that does this another way.

Do you have to have a tire made that these fit into? Do they glue on?
Dave1647545494
you lay them on the sidewall off the tire and it goes down into the bead then you blow the tire up and beat the insert flat with a rubber hammer use a little bleach white to clean off the scuffs and presto instant whitewalls
