zeitgeist57
They really couldn't survive on $25B, or $34B, or whatever the fuck they say they need... ...let's give them NOT ENOUGH, but a still substantial amt to the taxpayers...I hope this information is incorrect. We live in treacherous times... http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/05/breaking-congress-makes-tentative-deal-for-15-billion-in-autom/

Cordell
Let them fail, better companies will emerge. How long do you want this recession to last? I agree with you, but I don't want to be in the next great depression either. There is no easy answer to this.
TTQ B4U
How long do you want this recession to last? I agree with you, but I don't want to be in the next great depression either. There is no easy answer to this. we're better off dealing with it now during a recession and getting it over with vs letting the bleeding and negative press carry on much longer. the public is paying for this either way...through lost jobs or continued mis management and continued negative news. I say let them go belly up. Chrysler has plenty of cash hanging in front of them from their equity partner. If the ones who own them don't see them as a viable investment to put money into then why should we. I agree with the members of congress that said Chrysler is just looking to "get by" until they are acquired or merge. Ford seems to be the best of the bunch and will likely come out without having to use the money. However, they too better get things in order and start taking back some marketshare. GM is a fat poorly run and managed company with way too much baggage. Let them crush the unions, ditch the baggage of all the retirement packages and get back to doing business right. Fuck, if Honda can open a new plant and run a business in the US, one would thing big bad GM could do it. I'm sorry, I really feel for a lot of the folks that may lose their jobs, but they too need to better manage things and perhaps understand that other skills in life can be acquired but they need to actually do something. Perhaps they too will emerge better people and make it a point not to just be comfortable with life and maybe go learn more than just how to put a door on a Cadillac. I'm quite sure the line workers at GM made/make more than they would at Honda, but they now are going to be without a job and have more gray hair than their counterparts.
