Akula
The bulb blew in my DLP tv, I changed it. It was super simple and I guess I don't understand why they charge $300 for the service. I bought the bulb for $160 with 2 day shipping. Don't pay the man, DIY.
konig_twinkies
I have not had to replace mine yet but I have been told if you know what a screwdriver is you can fix it yourself ha ha
Akula
Well, in my case I had to have a torx set, a flat head and a phillips. took longer to order the new bulb than replace it

Nitrousbird
Go LED DLP, then there is no bulb or color wheel.

evan9381
a buddy of mine owns an electronics repair shop in whitehall, so i opted out of the 300$ service package
spankis
Four year warranty here 5 year warranty here . Got the new guy at hhgregg ( where they haggle a little bit ). I asked him if the optional extended warranty/service plan started after the factory warranty or included it, and he told me it started after. Turns out it didn't, but the deal was made and they adjusted my paperwork accordingly for a full 5 years including bulb replacement.

Nitrousbird
this is why DLP is cheaper No, DLP is cheaper because it is a projection TV vs. a flat panel. Samsung has already fixed all of the main gripes with DLP in their new LED DLP line (bulb, color wheel, and the rainbow effect).
Akula
I had a 4 year warranty and had the bulb replaced 3 times. This is a 50" DLP I bought in 2004. I was pleased at the result of replacing the bulb, if it dies again I will probably get a new LED DLP.
