kenny
Just about every car built by GM from 1969 until whenever they quit using it (late 80s). You looking for it as a T350 or a TH350?

coltboostin
Is a standard non-Hydro a 2 speed or something? Also from what I gather, the Th400 would be a much better option, especially in stock form. You guys agree?

Also from what I gather, the Th400 would be a much better option, especially in stock form. You guys agree? all auto trans are basiclly hydro, they are fluid couplers and controlled with hydraulic pressure's and valves still a hydro (2 speed). th400 will rob power vs a th350 in stock forms th400 internals are heavyer and take more power to turn. the glide(2 speed) is for littler cars under 2800 pounds. i would need more info on weight, power and intended use etc
TimTaylor751647545500
2 speed auto is a powerglide.

Are you telling me a TH400 is a 2 speed? I though it was a 3 speed? The glide is nice, but with a big turbo you have to spray the bejesus out of it to get it off the line. Weight-2600lbs Intended use-breaking the sound barrier. 9's on gas and all boost. 40 roll domination....
Guest Removed
never heard a a t350 only gm trans i know of a th350 and 400 they are both 3 speeds, 400 is much larger and heavyer all around! 400 will take more in stock form, but some easy mods can be done to the th350 to make it comparable and not rob as much horse as the 400. and depending on rear gearing and tire size
Guest 614Streets
The 400 is heavier and takes more power to turn as said , it is intended for high torque in stock form, in the aftermarket racing world , do your homework and call a place like coan for some real specifics when trying to weigh your choice versus budget. Guest Removed
and the glide you can get different drive ratios for (first gear that is). 1.76 and 1.82 are stock but there are aftermarket ones out there that go in the 2.10 or so range. Dont they both have 1.1 finals? Im stuck with a 4.11 rear. Tire size will be around 24.
Guest Removed
yes all have final of 1 to 1 but gearing in first and second are not the same basic, a glide is just 2 and drive. th350/400 was 1, 2, drive but the gearing for 2 in a glide can be changed from 1.76/1.82 to something else aftermarket like 2.00 or higher, depending what is out there in the aftermarket. but with 4.11 and that short of a tire, your going to be spinning any motor hard and high on the big end. its all going to come down to gearing! Guest Removed
Sounds like you need a built AOD 700r4 just dont give 4th full power but with a 24.5 tire, 4.11 gears in top gear(3rd) it looks like this! 8000 RPM 141.87 MPH 7500 RPM 133.01 MPH 7000 RPM 124.14 MPH 6500 RPM 115.27 MPH 6000 RPM 106.41 MPH 5500 RPM 97.54 MPH 5000 RPM 88.67 MPH 4500 RPM 79.80 MPH 4000 RPM 70.94 MPH 3500 RPM 62.07 MPH 3000 RPM 53.20 MPH 2500 RPM 44.34 MPH 2000 RPM 35.47 MPH 1500 RPM 26.60 MPH 1000 RPM 17.73 MPH this will help with gearing! http://www.wallaceracing.com/Calculators.htm
coltboostin
I've used gear calculators when I was setting up the Colt for the standing mile-I crossed 200mph at 7600rpm in 5th gear. I did not realize how much a 1.1 would kill me. The 700r4 looks like a great option now- Turbo 350 2.52 1.52 1 N/A Turbo 400 2.48 1.48 1 N/A 2004R 2.74 1.57 1 0.67 700R4 /4L60 3.06 1.63 1 0.7 4L80E 2.48 1.48 1 0.75 Pro's/Con's? Is it strong in stock form? And- is the Overdrive really that weak?

Guest Removed
od in any car is the issue, think about the physics of it. 4th gear top end run youre pushing so much weight against the drive line, when you go into od, you can almost double it! doubling the load against the motor. think taller tire! or lower rear gearing with 24.5 tire 8000 RPM 141.87 MPH 7500 RPM 133.01 MPH 7000 RPM 124.14 MPH 6500 RPM 115.27 MPH 6000 RPM 106.41 MPH 5500 RPM 97.54 MPH 5000 RPM 88.67 MPH do the same math it a 26" tire 8000 RPM 150.56 MPH 7500 RPM 141.15 MPH 7000 RPM 131.74 MPH 6500 RPM 122.33 MPH 6000 RPM 112.92 MPH 5500 RPM 103.51 MPH now with a 26" tire and say 3.55 gears 8000 RPM 174.31 MPH 7500 RPM 163.42 MPH 7000 RPM 152.52 MPH 6500 RPM 141.63 MPH 6000 RPM 130.73 MPH 5500 RPM 119.84 MPH not many use OD at WOT. plus you're doubling the strain on the bottom end, the supra that used to run the west side had 4.11 gearing. 27" tires and a glide. but had one nasty SBC in it with 2 spray plates. when trying to build a car for roll and drag gearing is what is going to break you, and it will hurt one or the other! that and the down side to short sidewall tire is the fact that dont wrinkle for the HOOK! cause theres no sidewall

I NEVER had a motor or trans issue any time I was over 180mph, not once. I agree its more strain, but thats what I like to do, its what I need to do. If its not going to like the big end, then its not for me.

twistedfocus1647545489
If you go with a 700R4 for top end runs make sure you get one with either a manual valve body or one that doesn't kick out of OD at wide open (Some GTA spec valve bodies I think??). Otherwise it'll want to drop back into drive past a certain throttle input... not so great for balls out high end speed. I would assume most high-$ 700s will already have this addressed, but if you piece it together yourself on the cheap, don't forget that part.
