ive got 3 handguns... i want to keep one for home protection and ccw (when i turn 21)

H&R Model 929 22 Cal... it looks kinda old

Walther PPK/S Cal.9mm Kurz/380ACP (comes in a case)

Smith & Wesson 38 special

what are these guns worth, and which one (or two?) should i keep?

also, i came into these guns from my father and grandfather who both passed away...what do i need to do to legally keep them in my possession, or sell them?

It's hard to sell guns you inherit, they are worth more for sentimental value.

You don't have to do a damn thing to "legally" keep them. Nothing to worry about there.

As for carry - the PPK should be good, the Smith would be fine if it's a smaller gun. It all depends on your preference. Neither of those are that great of calibers for carry to be honest, and I wouldn't even consider carrying the .22 you mentioned.

nothing to register or report serial numbers or anything like that? these guns dont have any sentimental value... my gpa and dad never used or cared about them...they were in a dufflebag in the garage... the smith is a smaller gun... i really just want to keep one of them, but the 38 and the ppk are both really nice, and i dont know which one would be better... what would the 22 be worth? do i have to put up pics before you guys could tell?

also, why is the caliber no good for a carry?

38SPL is a fine gun for carry... The Walther would work well, too. It just depends on what your needs are and if you can shoot either one fairly well. You don't want to carry a gun you can't shoot very well with.

If you can bring it to me I can take a look at them and give you an idea of value. Trying to give a value over the internet or over the phone without pictures is a worthless endeavor, just like trying to give a haircut over the telephone.

There is no such thing in this state as far as registration... (in this area anyway)... So you really don't need to worry yourself any about that. If you're in possession of them under 21, just don't get caught is my best advice to you.

I would get it notarized too for a little extra assurance. This is what I did when I bought my AR lower off of someone.

tbutera2112 if you decide to sell the 38 special I might be interested depending on condition and price. Let me know if you decide to sell.

http://www.thefiringline.com , scroll down to find the Harley Norden's firearms research forum. Looks like the site is down right now though.

You can also try http://www.thehighroad.com, again scroll down to the firearms research forum.

BTW the library has several gun value guides available. Um, I just took the 2007 one back today. Hit the one on Brice Road, they MIGHT have it on the shelves, or can reserve it for you.

Depending on price, I MAY be interesting in one or both of the shotguns.

As for selling and laws and such, you could always take a look at the sticky that Cinergi and myself spent several hours putting together

hey thanks i missed that sticky... i saw the one with the link to the back counter, just didnt see the one in that section...that helped with a lot of my questions.... ill get back to you on the shotguns, i still have no idea at all what theyre worth...but i believe one of them is spoken for, just cant sell it until i figure out what its worth

STOP! Do not sell any of the long guns or revolvers until you can have them appraised!

Seriously, you don't know what they might be worth, and you can't trust anyone you might sell to for an honest price assessment.

Look, true story, when my Grandmother died, we got all of her and Grandpa's guns. A couple pistols, a pump 20ga, and a side-by-side 20ga. We weren't interested in selling at any point, but the side-by-side made us a little curious. Turns out it was worth a shit-ton. Well over $2500. But here's the thing, the lowest gun in the series that gun was from would only be worth a few hundred. This one had every valuable option on it, but the differences are pretty subtle. Taken as a whole, what looks like a nice but not-too fancy gun is actually a very rare find.

Get your guns appraised if you don't know them, or risk getting SCREWED.
