Fubar231
You really think 250 watts will be enough to power 8 gigs of ram + that cpu? EDIT: Thats a beast ass heat sink in those last pictures, i need to get one, the stock AM2 one sucks fucking ass.
justinwebb
ill be getting the 360 watt just to be safe with all the things i am running off of it lol i know 360 will run it just fine 250 would be really close. I have done all the calculations with all the parts to see how much load will be
Fubar231
360 sounds better. I dont know what kind of load you plan on putting on the machine (IE Stress Testing) but it doesn't seem like too much. Anyways, good luck with the build. One last question... Why intel? Guest tbutera2112
i know where you live.... wanna help me install one of these, that happens to be VERY similar, in my truck?
justinwebb
I have always had AMD but just based on heat and such and AMD's dont do well with heat and the fact that the intel board had better specs for what i was needing i went with the intel board. Had the zotac amd board had more options for more ram and a 16x pci e slot i would have grabbed it. How do you know where i live lol? and sure i can help you any time just let me know i would be more than happy to help out, i am always trying to get others to go the car pc route

Fubar231
That explains why you use intel hah. Ever thought about starting a buisness and building car pc's for people? I bet a lotta rich people in dublin will pay big $$ for Car PC's... Just have to make sure they don't work unless its in park, cause then we'll really see how bad people can be at driving (I.E. Facebook/Myspace while driving... Oh shit)
justinwebb
got a few new things in for the car pc so figured i would update as i am bored on a sunday with nothing to do lol. First off got a 9800 GT 1 GB graphics card for it since it will be removable and can be brought inside and used as a gaming PC. It wont stay in all the time just when i have it inside for gaming and such to keep down on heat and power consumption when in the car lol. Got a new screen cause mine seems to have quit working, 3 years wasnt bad for the last one. I might try to get it working again its just the touch part isnt working. Got a new WIFI adapter that runs everything including N and has little antenna things lol. Got a new OBD tool one that supports updating the firmware so it will be more useful. Got a new Sirius kit and PC adapter for better satellite radio. And lastly i finally got my tiny keyboard that is wireless and the size of a cell phone. Its the greatest thing ever lol, best thing for a car pc. working on sanding down the bezel for the screen a little bit it has a few marks in it and such and figured i would repaint it while the screen was out. http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0406.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0408.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0409.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0419.jpg The new stuffs http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0413.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0414.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0416.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0417.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0418.jpg the bezel getting ready to be sanded down again lol http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0421.jpg
unfunnyryan
Those Zotac boards are AWESOME! I have the one with the Atom processor and ION integrated graphics. I have ubuntu installed and use mythtv for a media center front end. It also does a bunch of other stuff.
justinwebb
got bored over the winter and redid the screen a little better had a hairline crack that bothered me. Also, got a new screen for the heck of it and redid how the back board attached to the bezel its self in the back. Used a piece of plexi to attach it cracked it in a few places but it does the job better then I had it last time http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0498.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0497.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0496.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0502.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0501.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w264/justinwebb24/Carputer/DSC_0500.jpg

justinwebb
hey what software are you running? a stripped down version of XP no reason to go to 7 as its too much for a car pc and for the actual software that runs everything i am using centrafuse works great and does everything i need it to How do you like the DiNovo mini? You go with a newer proc yet? i love the tiny keyboard makes it so easy in the car to type out things or whatever, and its a dual core 3.16 GHZ lol why would i need any faster in a car pc this is already overkill. Gotta worry about heat issues being in a car all summer

Nitrousbird
Wouldn't it be more appropriate to run a solid state drive in a car PC, just due to the constant beating the thing takes?
justinwebb
Wouldn't it be more appropriate to run a solid state drive in a car PC, just due to the constant beating the thing takes? not really if mounted correctly in the case it will not get any vibration what so ever, had my last drive for 4 years and only once did it skip but that was when i bottomed the car out in a pothole on the freeway but that is to be expected haha. Plus a good sized SSD is expensive. Its all about placement and mounting in the case
