Sam1647545489
I know i asked this along time ago but I am again looking for another jet boat to play around with. The type of boat I am looking for looks like a surf board with a motor hanging out of it. Example i am looking for can be found here: I found a few but i wanna know some info before hand. How safe are they once they get to 70-80mph +. I know they cant go fast in chop but in smooth water do they get wishy washy at higher speeds. I want something fast like close to 100mph but I dont wanna kill myself either. Anyone have any experience with these style of boats. If this is in the wrong section please feel free to place in correct one.
JuicedH22
Not a good idea if you are just wantig something to go around on the water for fun in. they are light at speed, and on anything but glass smooth water can get hairy. If you want something fast, but still 'safe' (notice hte quotes) get a baja. be back in a few with some examples. (family has been boating since before I was born, everything from houseboats to jetskis and anything in between)

I dont wanna drop 50-60k on a baja either. I can find jet boats for under 5k all day long. Anything in a bigger boat to go that fast will be super costly. JuicedH22
I was thinking like an old baja sidewinder, with a big outboad on it, like a yamaha 175 or something.... http://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_images/3/2093/2121/30231060001_large.jpg pretty inexpensive and fast as fawk. yet you wont flip and die like the one you posted, and a LOT more easy to control. that being said, jetboats can be fun too, we had one (glastron). (a lot bigger than that piston death trap you posted, lol) use to make it rooster tail and screw with people when tubing/skiing, etc... JuicedH22
I guess all I am saying, if you get a small hull jet boat like that you will spend 90% of your time being worried as fuck you are going to die, and fighting with the boat. Though that 10% would put a smile on your face for a week. but for enjoying a day on the river/lake, I doubt it would be a good purchase. Total Sign
Pretty stable at speed, remember the faster you go the more it sticks to the water. But running a big number with a jet takes major bucks and power. Your looking over 700 to just hit 80 in most. Pumps don't handle power that well either. HAOLE
My dad has a 78 sanger super jet with a 460 Ford. It looks exactly like this one; http://www.jetboatperformance.com/images/uploads/Sangerjet_overall.jpg It is fast, but it will beat you to death if it is too choppy. I have came home with beat up legs and ribs because of the boat. They suck gas bad! I can burn 20 gallons per hour with no problems. I will say that you get lots of attention in the boat, some good some bad (the popo). With the exhaust running straight out of the headers it is very loud, the coppers will give you a hard time on some lakes.
Drewhop
Sam you need to modify search and look for a boat to do this.

RedRocket1647545505
Never heard of them. Looking into them now. They have been going back and forth with the STV's for years now when it comes to drag racing.

Holy Shit the prop is barely in the water! Sam I dont see this turning out very well, Shantons was bad enough and that was only running a 90 hp motor on two cylinders! Oh and I will bring the money to you if anything goes down Thurs or I will meet Shanton and give it to him if thats cool. btw I keep saying we should have a damn section on the forums for boats but no one listens to me. This would be a nice thread to add in there.

Kinda sweet, actually.
hot_wire
This popped up on craigslist http://columbus.craigslist.org/boa/1297212372.html I could get into trouble with a boat like that...
