Project 'War Eagle" LS1 Trans Am build

As a few of you know, I put my vehicle ownership aside last summer, and sold my CTS-V to Ashley, and put in a pool. I'm getting the bug, and hope to have another car, an LS1 Trans Am or Formula by the end of the year, or early next year. A Formula would be OK, since I want to utilize the low rear spoiler and add a Mecham wing, like my last LT1 Formula below had. Until then, I plan to get a custom front bumper cover done as well as a custom WS6 hood done..

I want to do something that has not been done to my knowlege, which is saying something since there are so many different variations of the LS1 Trans Am/Formula out there. I have it in my head. We'll see how it materializes.

First, I like the solid WS6 hood of the LT1 cars better than the twin nostrils of the LS1 car. So here is one of the mods I intend to attempt with a WS6 hood. I photoshopped this photo since I can't find a manufacturer that makes a hood like this. If anyone can point me to a manufacturer that already makes this style hood, it will save me allot of fabrication time. ;) I also plan to fill the 2 holes in the front bumper cover, right under the WS6 hood. That is photoshopped in the below pic also.

Another mod I intend to try and pull off is to cut out the front side marker light area and change that into a larger brake duct. Thanks to Transamatt99 for donating a slightly burnt bumper cover so I could mock up these next pics.

Planned modifications-initial cuts made this weekend, with black duct tape added to see how it will look. So far, I like it allot.

That is it , so far. If anyone knows of someone with a good used LS1 Trans Am front bumper cover cheap, please PM me. I am going to use this first one for ideas, and to cut pieces out of to weld into the good bumper. I also would like to find a damaged '93-'97 Firebird front bumper cover so I can use the middle section to graft onto the LS1 bumper to cover the center holes under the WS6 hood. I want a '93-'97 bumper cover because it has the firebird emblem as part of the plastic, and I want to utilize that in the design.

I hope you keep this thread up to date. I cut the middle black section out of my 97 camaro front bumper to allow air across the intercooler. However, the rest of the car is far too nice to have this hillbilly ricer look so I have also been wondering how the eurothane bumper cover could be modified.

The bumper cover I have modified was in an engine fire. The top middle section has enough charred plastic that I dont want to use it. If you look at the 'stock front marker' pic above, you can kind of see the tan area around where the headlight would be, near where I have the tape. Its scorched, and partially melted from there all the way to the other side, or I would definitely use it.

Is the polyurethane rod better than the 3M Automix EZ Sand Flexible Parts Repair? If so, I'd definitely like to take you up on the lesson. Thanks for the offer.

If you are talking about the orange one(House Of Color Candy Tangerine, BTW), it was a GM High Tech Performance cover car, I believe. The pics in the mag looked very cool. I'm not looking to do orange anyway though. My plan is to go Ferrari 'Silverstone' dark grey metallic.

Oh man. Thats harsh. To each his own though. ;) I got TONS of compliments on that car's paint. My buddy and I did the flame job ourselves too. House Of Color Green micro metalflake straight over black, with seafoam green tips under the flake. Hand painted pinstriping too. ALLOT of hours in that paint job.

Ramsey. Ya, thats the Raptor hood I believe. It still has the separation in the hood nostrils, and also utilizes the front holes in the bumper cover, which I plan to fill.

Alright. Picked up a 2002 Trans Am WS6 as a starter. Getting with IPS next week to get some specifics on what was done by the previous owner. One of the things on the top of my list was low miles and preferrably a stick. This 2002 has 23,000 miles and yes, is a 6 speed. Here are a few pics.

Things are going slow, but I did get in the calipers and rotors for the brake upgrade. Here's a pic with the card in there for size perspective. These things are HUGE. 14" rotors and 6 piston calipers. :D

Ya, I know. The plan is to put Z06 Comp Grey Spider wheel type rims all around. Might cost a slight bit of time at the track, but a way better overall rim for the car. If I can possibly fit the drag wheels on with spacers, I will keep them, for when I hit the track. I also have to use a spacer for the rims I am looking at, so the spindles will be getting longer lugs anyway.

I know Mark Carlyle is using some kind of lightweight wheel on his Z06, so thats another option if need be also.
