Radio Flyer1647545514
Been thinking about getting something for the house. There have been a string of break ins/ attempts in my neighborhood and I'm looking for a get the fuck away from my house protection. I know I can't own a hand gun so I'd be looking for something cheap that wouldn't throw me on my ass. Shotgun recommendations and prices that associate with them? Something easy to maintain. I may only fire this a few times, just up at a shooting range and it may sit around the house forever after that.

RedRocket1647545505
Remington 870 Express \thread . If I had to pick just one for home defense, this would be it. I have one and love it. They can be had for ~$300 NIB. Load it up with 7+1 rounds of Federal FliteControl 00 buck and call it a day. http://www.tropicalfirearms.com/images/870%207shot.jpg
Radio Flyer1647545514
Thanks. Talking to someone tomorrow to see if they don't have anything from their huge arsenal they are willing to sell me. Any other places to buy used guns that you know about if he doesn't have anything? verse
Vances has 870's on sale, 279.99. Not a bad deal. I was so close to buying one Friday.
Bam
I would so own one of those if I had a decent way to hide it/secure it at close reach, but with two little kids...can't have it just laying in the closet.
KennyFKINPowerz
Mine had a trigger lock built in and you need a special key to unlock the gun.

Don't waste your time with a Mossberg, and while I'd like to get a Benelli, I can't justify the extra money.
Radio Flyer1647545514
I still have to read on all this. I need to get it registered and all that in my name correct? Will I need a background check?

Will I need a background check? http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62502 Background check is simple so long as you don't have any felonies or violent misdemeanors. So long as you've not been in trouble for anything major, you just fill out the sheet and 5 minutes later they come back saying you are approved, its that easy. straightouttalocash
870 rules. You might visit http://www.thehighroad.org or http://www.thehighroad.us to read a ton about shotguns, home defense, other guns, etc. Classified section is good as well. Also try http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com forums, as they cover every topic known to man and have good classifieds as well. There are other options for shotguns (esp. used) including the Mossberg 500/590, Ithaca 37, Browning BPS, Winchester 1200/1300, and so on. Lots of good options, but the 870 is the best-seller for a reason.
evan9381
cant ever have too many 870's. the one i have now, the only reason i havent gotten rid of it or anything, even though its beat to shit and rusted from neglect, is because i got it for christmas when i was like 13, and it was the first gun my parents bought me soon (ie, when i decide to spend $300 on myself instead of doing something else to my house), im going to get another one, probably a super mag, and finally get back out and start doing some duck/goose hunting, and more trap/skeet shooting but for my home protection at this time, ive got a S&W M&P in my nightstand, and a keltec on top of the nightstand when i decide to bring it in from the car. no kids running around here, just me and the g/f, so no worries about it getting into the wrong hands. RangerTurbo
I know I can't own a hand gun so I'd be looking for something cheap that wouldn't throw me on my ass. yes you can, just have to buy it from a private seller, not a dealer. You can own a hand gun at 18. And since you mentioned "Talking to someone tomorrow to see if they don't have anything from their huge arsenal they are willing to sell me", I'm assuming its a private seller, go ahead and look at their handguns if that really does interest you. Shotgun recommendations and prices that associate with them? Something easy to maintain. Like everyone else, I agree with the 870 as the go-to shotty. GonneVille
BTW, 00 buck is good stuff, but for home defense, #6 birdshot will do. At indoor ranges, it'll leave one ragged hole, but two layers of drywall will stop most of the pellets.
Radio Flyer1647545514
So what are the laws as far as hand guns go and not being 21? I was always under the impression you HAD TO BE 21 to own one.

It's a felony to my understandings, if anyone is to sell you a handgun while you're under the age of 21.
Mr. Jones
870 FTW. I love mine and have put quite a few rounds through it without incident. Great gun for a great price.
