  1. Kinda small gas tank, don'tcha think? Nice, I had my eye on one of those awhile back but changed my mind, still think they're great bikes though.
  2. Had a '99 Passat 1.8T and while it was a good car that thing COOKED oil. I'd change it at 3k religiously and it was gassy and black every time. That engine bay stayed hot for hours too. I would want service records, looking for regular oil changes and also a timing belt service if it is anywhere near 100k as they were known to have timing belt failures prior to the recommended change interval. That said, they drive well for FWD and the interiors aren't bad. Peppy in stock form, easily boosted to much higher levels if you feel so inclined.
  3. So if you make snide comments toward me are they considered "ginger snaps"..? Ooohh, feel the burn...
  4. You're the one driving a stickercharged Miata, might as well name your dog "Mugen". Now if you don't mind, I'm busy attaching a three-tier wing and Type R badge to the back of my Jetta...
  5. I love that the lapdance is so much better when the stripper is cryin'... That and Sapphire martinis, which also please Sheeba, apparently...
  6. Wow, the Yeungling underground never ceases to amaze me. I know some guys that do the same thing, coordinate their trips to PA to bring in a ton of Yeungling. I like it fine, but don't get the fascination unless you grew up in PA and miss drinking it. It's good, and inexpensive, but not exactly the nectar of the gods. Still, when you like something that is hard to get, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Years ago I used to have my buddy in NC bring me Texas Pete's hot sauce. Now I can buy it wherever, but back then it was hard to get. I still have him bring me some Cheerwine off and on, just because I can't have it otherwise. Good luck.
  7. Might be a GVX, the hottest of all Yugos... One-point-THREE, bitches! That's Hayabusa territory! Oh yeah, it's a car, and still slow... Still have a soft spot for the Yugo, it came out when I was 11, and I was rooting for the underdog... Too bad they sucked.
  8. The Dodge 5.9L Magnum is a good engine, backed by a sketchy transmission. Repairs aren't ridiculous, but it's something to keep in mind. I know several people who had converter issues around 125-140k. Not super expensive, but it's an issue to consider. Good trucks overall though. They drink more gas than a 5.3, but a 5.3 with 180k+ is probably pretty tired and sipping some oil. If they're close in price I'd lean toward the Dodge, assuming nothing is seriously wrong with it. If the Chevy is cheaper and has a lot of service records in its favor vs no service history on the Dodge it's the winner. Obviously you'll have to look at both of them closely, as there are plenty of things that could be a go-no go gauge for either one. Good luck.
  9. Dig the c-pillar scoops, straight outta JCWhitney! Tunnel-ram = hi-tech Reminds me of a car I saw years ago, tunnel-rammed Chevy II with a cage, similar _custom_ paint, etc. "What's it run?" I asked... "13.80's, it's a show car." Ugh... That thing is waaaay bitchin', all it needs is a naked lady air freshener and a couple somas tucked under the console... Straight peeeeimpin'...
  10. Those X1/9s have awesome rollover protection for a targa top, anybody that resurrects cool oddballs like that deserves some props. Surprising amount of TR7 love on here, apparently CR hearts the wedgemobiles... I wanna see another hot rod Yugo like the 1.5L racer I saw a few years ago... Hey Sean, did Dave ever get some A/C in the office? Iceman sez hi.
  11. I've had both a 10V a 20V and they are great cars. I dunno about this particular car, but I really liked mine. Non-quattro w/o heated seats = stripper, but the 10V is economical, probably approaching 30+ mpg in this car if it is running right. So here's a bump...
  12. Oh yeah, the ultimate old school travel accessory, the AAA Triptique! 20 pages of map snippets with big ink stamps that say "const." for the construction sections... I'll be honest, a couple years ago I walked into the same AAA office I went to 15 years ago and had them give me 1 last triptique for a trip. I've cheated the last couple years and used teh interweb, but the triptique is near and dear to my heart, lots of memories... It was a great perk pre-internet.
  13. Lighted squirters... I remember kids coming into Jeg's asking for "cobra eyes"... Initially we were like WTF? Then "dude how gay is that?! Try Pep Boys or Autozone!" Then "ummm, yeah, third aisle over, thanks APC..." Oh the shame... Have to ask the seller where the chinese dragon seatcovers went and why he doesn't have any peeling vinyl stripes on the car... Straight peeeimpin'...
  14. I've had AAA Plus for ages and my experience mirrors root's but his lolkat rendition brings more funny than I can manage so I'll refer you back to his post. Basically it's worth the peace of mind to know the tow is coming, for free, but yes you may end up in the ghetto waiting. I recommend getting your concealed carry license, as you will usually break down in the ghetto or in banjo country, and the peace of mind from being armed is even better than what AAA Plus offers.
  15. Screw the guns, there's a mini-churn! Errr, I mean thanks for the heads-up.....
  16. 870 rules. You might visit http://www.thehighroad.org or http://www.thehighroad.us to read a ton about shotguns, home defense, other guns, etc. Classified section is good as well. Also try http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com forums, as they cover every topic known to man and have good classifieds as well. There are other options for shotguns (esp. used) including the Mossberg 500/590, Ithaca 37, Browning BPS, Winchester 1200/1300, and so on. Lots of good options, but the 870 is the best-seller for a reason.
  17. My Glock 21 SF fits my hand perfectly as well, but so did a Springfield single-stack 1911 which seemed to wake up the nerve damage in my hand and wrist, cuasing me to fire about 4 surprisingly accurate shots then put the gun down exclaiming "damn, that hurt!" I went with the Glock instead, but based on just holding the two, I would have taken the 1911 immediately. I actually don't shoot the Glock any better at first, but no pain through a whole magazine so I don't have to worry about taking a couple shots and losing my abilities due to weakness and pain in my hand. It's not a consideration for everyone, but if you have any propensity toward carpal tunnel problems, etc. there it is. Shoot first, then buy, and don't believe any gun magazines BS.
  18. If that doesn't work you could talk to some of my clients (I work in disability determination) that have had motorcycle wrecks. Many of them lost limbs to road signs. You're sliding, it's fine, then here comes mister "stop ahead" sign and the post doesn't give, your femur does... Bye bye, mister leg... Nice to know you... I still ride, but I have a LOT of respect for things like this. About the deadliest thing to encounter on a bike is a guardrail. You hit it low and you're lucky to just lose an arm or leg and bounce away from it. You get tossed on top of it and it'll eviscerate you, guts everywhere. If you haven't already, look at some of these common roadside features and imagine having your body thrown into them at a high rate of speed. Bet you'll be more leery of dragging knee on the street or street racing the guy on the V-Max after that.
  19. 661 is decent, a few curves with some scenery and hills. Beyond that, for the Mt. Vernon area I really don't know. 13 from Mt. Vernon to Fredericktown is dull (and short), I can tell you that much.
  20. A friend of mine who was a police officer noticed that when he ran radar (keep in mind this was 10 years ago) Corvettes were hard to pick up, as were crotch rockets. He said he could nail a Harley from waaaaay back, but a crotch rocket would maybe read from 50-100 yards at best. Just some anecdotes, I dunno.
  21. V6 is much more desirable. A friend of mine had one just like that one and missed it so much that, years later, he bought a super-clean black 4-banger model. Total.pig. Slow, decontented, he actually considered taking the cash for clunkers deal for it but decided to keep it. Even so, every time he drives it he bitches about the engine. Even so, if it's an Amigo you want, don't go too far chasing this one, since it isn't your Holy Grail. The Raider is amusing to drive, but it's still a Montero "imported for Dodge". Offer what you are willing to spend and let it go if the guy won't bite. No big loss.
  22. The Bohica (aka "Bend Over Here It Comes Again", seriously that's the story) upper is apparently somewhat crude but cheap. The guys behind it are straightforward, so they will work with you on problems, as they want to succeed. Overall it is great for the price from what I hear. They have been very good with follow-up for the guys on http://www.thehighroad.com so I would think they would be good for you, but YMMV.
  23. No, he didn't need to. If he lives long enough to understand he'll eventually slow down. If not, he'll be a pic on rotten.com with his butthole hanging out of the back of a minivan... Without the traffic? Sure, get on it, let your ZX14 flag fly, but in traffic the little old lady in the Cutlass Ciera will surely kill you... My 2 cents. Of course I'm a newb, so who's to say..?
  24. It varies. Sometimes it's no big deal, as plastics and a clip-on can make an older bike a salvage title. Other times the damage was extensive enough frame damage was assumed and the bike may possibly have a wobble, etc. Regardless, it lowers the resale value a good bit, so for a _first_ bike I'd avoid it. There are plenty of great first bikes out there from under a grand on up. You can get a good FZR600 for under $2k. Hold out for something like that. If it's a later gixxer and the price is like $4k there are plenty of good bikes in that range, just as fast. Don't rush something like this. If you already bought it (I see I'm 3 weeks late) I hope it's great.
