To be honest, there is a ton of reading for you to do.

If you are asking the above questions, it is obvious you have done nearly no research on the matter. I'd rather buy a pre-built Stage3 after the first guy dumped his life savings into it.

Start searching around:

I usually figure once you have a donor vehicle, try to have around 10-15K set aside for all of the maintenance, suspension, and Stage3 conversion money. I've seen numerous Stage3 S4's for under 20K in the last year, however. Then you just have to have to do the timing belt over because you can't trust the previous owner, and add your own finishing touches.

X2

You have a LOT of research to do.

You will save at least 10k by buying someone elses stg3 car instead of building your own.

Stock motor is good for about 500whp before you need rods. You probably want the lightest model and dont care about traction control so you probably want a 2000 (early 2000 with aluminum uprights and no sunroof would be the lightest). There are tons of changes, use the links provided above, you have some reading to do.

The blue one has the sport interior with the alcantara interior and aluminum trim which is nice. It has a salvage title so i dunno...The white one has higher miles but doest give a whole lot of detail, but I'm assuming its not a salvage vehicle.

Ugh...if I bought one of those, and did a stage 3 conversion I would end with how much I paid for my car 3 years ago.

10/17 at NTR be there!

I think I'm helping my mother in law move that day, so I'll have a futon in the trunk. Should make for more of a challenge

Just kidding, no more dragstrip days for me, I need a better clutch for that. But when I do...

Thanks for the links ! looks like I need to start reading up . LOL ! To be honest the blue one has always been my favorite . I was gonna make a lowball offer on it and see where it went from there .

so is there anyone on CR that has a S4 pushing 400+hp ?

A flash = +80hp, +90ft/lbs

or

~$5K for OEM RS4 turbos and custom tune = 600chp

or

~$6K for GT28s + Rods and custom tune = 700+chp

Thats pretty good $/hp if you ask me, especially in a daily driveable 4 door grocery getter.

Maintenance is not that bad, but definitely not worry free. I have been DD'ing mine for 3 years, only maintenance I've done is change the oil and spark plugs. Things I've replaced not counting mods: control arms, tensioner pulley, wheel bearings, after-run coolant pump, clutch pedal switch and CV boots. The car has 134k miles one it.

If you buy one thats not beat to shit and taken care of you will be fine. Some people say that its been a PITA (yet they still have them), while others have had nothing but good luck with them.

I bought this car because I wanted a AWD DD that was nice and not slow. I didnt expect much out of the car, now I love the thing.
