Question for Vette Techs (AJ)?

I drove a new 09 Z06. Car is much improved over my 2002, more refined, more creature comforts, & of course more power.

But the 2010 has "launch control"! So my question is just how good is this launch control? reliable? is it worth it to consider the 2010 rather than stealing a 2009?

Not buying one yet, but very interested -

haven't got to play with one yet. i can tell you that the price will be more than an 09'. also sell your car insted of trading if you thought about that, they will dick you over.

doesn't really look like it helps much http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpDievbsgzU

looks like it takes the guess work out of finding the sweet spot to launch at....i would say with practice, you can achieve the same effect with the 09

GM’s testing of the system found that just about any driver can achieve very consistent times on par with that of a skilled driver’s best efforts. The car in the test videos is a Z06 which ran 0-60 MPH in 4.2 seconds without launch control and bog off the line. The 2nd video shows a hard launch with a lot of wheel spin that did 0-60 MPH in 4.1 seconds. The 3rd video shows a professional driver running 0-60 MPH in 3.6 seconds without launch control. The last video shows a launch control run performing a 0-60 MPH run in just 3.65 seconds which can easily be repeated over and over again without worrying about too much or too little throttle on the on the launch, or burning up the clutch in the process.

for .1 seconds i wouldn't pay more for that car.

The launch control is very intriguing for us, we have not had our hands on it, but have seen the calibration files for it, and it seems that it can be manipulated for benefit. The launch control will be reliable because is really is not mechanical in origin, all in software and programming. I would have no concern with it at all.

In the end, im not sure I would justify the 2010 just for launch control, when you can spend 2000 dollars on modifications and run high tens. I would buy a lightly used 09, letting some one else pay for the drive off deprecation.

Once you get the car, I would service the rocker arms, intake, thermostat tune. And make around 485-500 wheel horse power. For example Mr. Stock here is an 07 cars dyno graph we worked on and custom tuned, with the mentioned modifications

Browse around this link for more examples, we still have many more cars to add, but you will find a lot of Z's we have done. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ipsmotorsports/sets/

Give me a shout if you have any more questions.
