Diamonds
From my mother in law. Where'd she get it? That is in good condition too. minimal belt buckle scratches. To the right person you could get 3 grand. Hell, toss it on ebay, you might be surprised. The problem with guitars is the misvaluation of that happens today. Just because soemone once paid 10k for a vintage guitar doesnt mean anyone else will. The other thing is that they will put an MSRP on a vintage item...which is superfluous. The one thing you have to keep constant is that worth is defined as how much someone is willingto give you for it. But who knows, osme famous rock star could have had one at one point and want one again... you could make millions, lol.
31rx7
If it is a real Gibson SG, it is a valuable piece. Good for you! By the way, it is "Les Paul".
ponyjr1647545514
The pickup in that is amazing. A classic gibson p-90. I'd kill for it. Really nice fat necks on them. They truly do not make them like this any more.
unfunnyryan
Find someone skilled at guitar repair/maintenance to clean it up a bit. Then use it as a awesome wall decoration until you need the money edit: that is a beautiful guitar btw, congrats on your find!
HAOLE
The funny thing is I have no idea how to play guitar.
RS69
If I was you, I would get it cleaned up and start learning to play. I just started to learn a few weeks ago and loving it. My kids are taking guitar lessons and I am learning from them. We bought an acoustic Washburn.

TTQ B4U
Get it cleaned up and have it professionally appraised. I'd take it to two places and get it in writing. Then talk with your insurance agent and get it covered.

The one I have here is all original. I would like to find a new knob for it. The mother of pearl insert is gone.
TTQ B4U
clean it up, ebay, done I wouldn't....unless you're homeless and need the money. Correct me if I'm wrong but time and supply/demand will only increase it's value. Still, I wouldn't sell it on eBay. Seek out the right person who sees value in this thing and get the most from it you can.
Diamonds
These things are always DOTS (depends on the situation).... The main reasons people buy old guitars are for the age of the electronics and the playability of necks/action/etc.. The right buyer might pay more than 3k. some might only offer 1000.00 you know? John Bruh
I would definitely.would not clean it or refinish it. You areonly going to hurt the value. Thus way peopleknow its a real one. I would get appraised and try to find a local collector or see if any stores will let you put it on consignment. Definitely insure it before u do that too. Worst case eBay it

Worst case eBay it right, put it on consignment locally so 14 people can see it... dont bother putting it on ebay so millions can "bid to buy the realness".... /sarcasm... BTW, id absolutely NOT refinish it but i'd ABSOLUTELY clean it. The problem i see in this thread is that everybody looks at the brand name and at the year it was MFG'd and thinks its some crazy unicorn of a guitar and they covet it because of that. how does it play? you noted that you dont play (that was a rhetorical question) Truth be told, you dont play guitar so there is no reason to keep it. Its not an heirloom from a member of YOUR family so theres no reason to keep it. I think you'd have to get her approval before selling it (or at least that'd be the right way to do it). Disclaimer - Im not telling him to sell it because I want it. I do not want it. i play bass anyways.
Diamonds
Heres one, asking price it 4,750 Most guitars can be had for 30% off so that puts it right around 3500.00 (probably why they prices it at 4,750.00) Make some money, or learn to play, btw, that thing is light as fuck, 5.7 pounds, FUCK!! http://www.gbase.com/gear/gibson-sg-les-paul-jr-09-reduce-1963-cherry-r
