need help finding a VIN

OK, I so I was wondering if there is any way to find/look up a VIN from one of the cars I used to own. Specifically I am looking for my first car. I have no paper work on it and when I bought it it was still under my parents name. Is there any way to look up what the VIN was that way I can try to trace it down via carfax to see if its still on the road or if it was crushed.

If you go to the BMV they can print off any and all cars you've had in your name. Obviously since you said it was in your parents one of them would have to go. Last time I did it it was free and the vin# was included in the print out along with make/model and date bought/sold.

I'd like a carfax or something on my previous cars.. just wondering how many times it's changed owners since I sold the car(s).
