1981 Mercedes 300SD NOW ASKING $3,000 FIRM FOR CR MEMBERS!

5 cylinder turbo diesel

W126 chassis - big body car

173K miles

Automatic, blue leather

A/C converted to R134a, needs charged and checked for leaks

Car is original....has not been converted to grease

Radio is starting to fail..it's original

Minimal rust on front bumper (of course the one pic I have of it won't load, this is listed on Craigslist and there is a picture there of it)

Interior is in really nice shape

2nd owner car, single lady's 2nd car decided she wants to sell. Asked me to do it. Hence why I sell "so many cars".

Her and her husband purchased the car in 1983 with 35K miles on it. It was a lease car. She has the original owners manual, service manual, all of the service records over the years, the original title in her husbands name as well as the current title with her name on it. (husband passed away) It has not been in an accident, it had some rust repaired and she has the photos and receipts for that as well.

Car is in really nice shape for the mileage....

Awesome car, and will last another 60k miles with good maintenance without any problems.

I love W126s. Shouldn't take long to sell...

Lot's of talk, haven't had an appointment to view yet. Time will tell I suppose, not in a huge hurry, but would like it out of my hair. It's a pretty neat car though.

Talk to me people, shoot me a PM if you are interested, and let me know what is holding you back. Mileage? Trying to figure out what I need to do as far as adjusting the price. Looking for a little feedback without tearing the thread up.

I'll toss in my $.02. $3k is fair for a solid 300SD.

Fuel economy, guys on the benz forum get like mid 20s. 23-26 is what I've read. Diesel benzes don't get the 35+ mpg craigslist ads like to claim. My '87 3.0L turbo does 26-29 in a lighter car. Which is a vast improvement over the 5.6L 560SEL version, but just remember this isn't a VW TDI.

173k on a car that sounds this well maintained is next to nothing. Plenty of guys on the diesel forum are breaking 300k on them. I had a 300D with 379k, it is still running and driving daily with the new owner. Original motor, 2nd trans. Maintained these are some of the best cars you can buy. My current daily just rolled 181k, my running parts car has 180k. I maintain a pair for a guy, hes got 297k and 225k on his, and a mutual friend has 360k and 390k on his pair.

That's what I'm looking for, I've had somewhat similar feedback via PM. I really appreciate it guys. I'm going to talk to her on the price now that I am home from the 12 hour race and see what she would like to do.

Feel free to leave your post, I wish people would give feedback like this on Craigslist instead of bashing a listed car.

well if you know anything about the 300 series diesel this is the louder clankier model. The next gen. is much smoother. Some people just can't handle the semi feel of this diesel but some can. another concern is a/c, could be an evaporator not fun to tear apart the entire dash on this car. maybe its the price maybe its not.
