No need for pricey camera gear (pics included)

With the holidays coming up and a common misconception that camera gear needs to be pricey in order to yield good results, I thought I would share some images that prove things differently.

I do quite a bit of shooting and a ton of editing for others. In fact more the latter than being behind the lens. I see shots from all types of gear. Just like cars, the gear makes very little difference, except where perhaps you have a skilled photog using quality glass and gear, but then that's to be expected.

So, if you're considering purchasing a camera for you or someone else, keep in mind, you don't have to spend a ton of dough to get what ultimately a little practice will provide in time. You do need to buy the right type of camera and even model for the type of shots you'll be taking, but that's where the biggest limitation related to hardware is at. Otherwise, it's up to you the operator and processor of the images.

Here are just a handful of recent shots I've processed from cameras 3-10 years old, none of which are over 6mp's and all of which cost $150-$200 max.

PM me if you have any questions. I'm always happy to help if I can.

Those look great, Tim.

Thanks Doc.

So it's the editing that makes them bling. Nice work

Yes, but not always necessary. Kinda like your car. Mods not necessary to make it cool and fast; but to many, it does add some zing. Starting with a good shot helps. Although, keep in mind, even then, not all of these images were good straight from the camera but that's not always the cameras fault. More often it's not. Again, me in your car, stock or as it sits now, I'd very likely be the weak point :o

dude awesome pictures! those would make some awesome desktop backgrounds! ive got a 7mp digital camera thats a few years old and i cannot finger out how to take good, clear pics with it. i dont get it.

Thanks. If you need help with the camera, a cold beer or coffee sometime with your camera in hand will go a long way. Just PM me.

In before Ben rips on my watermarks too :)

The mountain pic HDR?

looks like it, im looking into trying that out, what program would you recommend?

Single shot HDR...from jpeg's even.....so no, not true HDR. More tone mapping. I use a couple different filters in Photoshop. They work about the same. I can send them to you if you like.

Most of those are really awesome to begin with and your processing takes them over the top to epic. A few others were just snapshots to begin with, but the processing made them great.

No consumer would care though, especially since as a photographer you spend time and money learning composition, styles, etc and then all the client ends up buying is the snap shots where everyone says "cheese."

Did you adjust the DoF of that first photo? If that was a P&S I want one because thats something you'd expect only an SLR to produce.

True. More and more of my work today is leaning towards processing of other folks images. It's better money for me and easier to do in less time. More and more I take everyday snaps from my clients, improve them even just a little and watch them smile with thanks. That's what I like doing most.

The first one is not from a DSLR. It's depth of field and depth was added via post processing.

Not to be a dick, but this is my official function here, so I understand this is intended to be informational and all, and watermark jokes aside, now you are incorporating a .biz web address in it. Can't really argue it's not a "Business" with a .biz address. IMO this takes it over the edge from informational to advertising. Which as you know requires a vendors fee Tim, which I believe you paid in the past and chose not to continue to do so. It's only fair to the other vendors. They paid for the right. You have not. Pm me if you wish to become a vendor and I will unlock this thread.
