Drewhop
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/piracy "A total of two pirates, including the one who was knifed, died during the ensuing confrontation — which happened around 9 a.m. East Africa time" Someone needs to start a legal pirate hunting program. Rally Pat
Why would you even sail in that region?? LMAO A coworker and I were having that exact discussion. You would think after the first few hijackings, they would learn to stay away?

CRed05
http://www.nachomamatees.com/stores/n/nacho/catalog/jesus-saves-mine-photo.jpg But seriously, sounds like they were just off the coast off of Kenya? I went snorkling there once, it's pretty nice there. There wasn't any fear of pirates then.

"It will never ever happen that hostages are rescued and we are hauled to prison." wtf you wont be hauled to prison for killing hostages? Richard Cranium
The pirates are ranging further and further from their coast. They are using motherships to launch raids from. As far as I am concerned this is a crime in international waters. They should be tried and punishment delivered by whatever naval force captures them. I believe the historical punishment for piracy was hanging. To hell with hauling them all the way to America, then trying them and incarcerating them here. unfunnyryan
Possible million dollar yacht, and not even a $200 hipoint carbine to defend it. sigh.
Scotty2Hotty
Or at least be armed for fucks sake. Easier said than done thanks to the UN. Lots of arms embargos and laws with weapons around Africa. But never the less, it spans back to staying the he'll away from that part of the world. Seems to be a trend that won't see much of an end. Hopefully the US Air Force plans another AC-130 strike in Somalia sometime soon. It'll be good practice for them again.

Scotty2Hotty
I hear you and imma let you finish but it aint stopping the Somali's from using weapons in international waters now is it? Exactly, it's a shit situation. The UN like usual is absolutely worthless in all aspects. Like maersk was talking about, hire more Israeli security. Some of these recently formed democratic countries in Africa have no real way to secure or police these areas, let alone their waters. Bear AKA blackwater took a contract to deal with pirates. It's kind of a free for all out there.
Guest Spam
Its either our military or anothers such as Russia goes into Somali and wrecks these piracy scheme these assholes are running. Or Arm the sailors. Thats the only way to fix the problem. These pirates sure as hell wont want to fuck with boats when they are packing RPG's to fire back at them. This shit will come to an end real quick if the UN sucks a fat one and get their hands out of this.
oh8sti
Is it illegal to carry weapons in international waters if your like a contract company to escort boats through that shit?

Scotty2Hotty
Is it illegal to carry weapons in international waters if your like a contract company to escort boats through that shit? It would probably depend upon which country you were contracted by, I'd assume. There's no real laws in international waters, but the UN tried its best to lock Africa down on weapons. It's been said you can pick up an AK for $50 or the price goat.
Berto
Why would you even sail in that region?? Tractor
To those saying don't go there, look at a map. Unless you wanna go the other way around africa or the earth you must pass by the area to get to a lot of places. Especially if your an oil tanker headed to the US west coast. Not to mention China, Japan, Australia. Sure a small sailing vessel could go the other way, but its would take a couple years. Pirate situation needs fixed. We did it once already in the Americas, we just gotta get pissed enough to do it there.
