pontiacfreak142
A buddy text me the other day and said that he had found an adapter kit for my 4L60E to work with a SBC. For those that dont know, i also have a turbo 400 trans that is about to go to the shop to find out for sure if it is built like ive been told. assuming it is already built, ive been debating on which to go with. Pros of using 4L60: smaller more efficient trans, would still have OD. cons: would need to have work done (ive quoted at about 400 for a rebuild kit with stronger components and 300 for labor), adapter kit is 600 bucks pros of using TH400: possibly already built, would bolt right up, can use trans brake (which i really want) cons: bigger less efficient, no OD, not sure if same size as 4L, so may need new drive shaft. which would you choose? 10phone2
depends on what you want from the car down the road. If you are okay with no OD and having to drive at lower mph because you want to max your hp, then go with the TH400. Even though it is more inefficient, it probally can handle more hp before it craps itself.
Cordell
Throwing $400 at a 4L60 will not do shit, ask me how I know. Try spending at least $1000 to have it last any amount of time. A T-400 will need a different driveshaft. For what you are doing just stick with the T-400, I thought you were building this into a drag car so it shouldn't even be a question. All you care about is drag times and it won't be fast enough to need overdrive.
Patterson
You'll need a new drive shaft either way. You've already got the 400 use it.
Nitrousbird
Rossler 4L60E with the transbrake option. http://www.rosslertrans.com/4l60e_or_th700%20Options.htm

Actually the 4l60 is horribly inefficient. Takse 75hp to run it. Where as the TH400 takes 45 to run. Rossler 4L60E with the transbrake option. http://www.rosslertrans.com/4l60e_or_th700%20Options.htm 4l60/e/700s really dont like have a brake in them. Talked with several high end tranny builders about putting on in the s10 and they advised against it.
AJ
you'll also need a different cross member and a way to mount the torque arm if you run the 400.
nurkvinny
After all these years with a big gear and only 3 speeds, I would invest the cash into the 4l60e... whatever it took to beef it up and get it mounted.

It gets so god awful expensive to build a 4l60/4l60e. If overdrive is a must, I'd invest my money into a 4l80e.
Patterson
Don't forget a TCU and harness.

Nitrousbird
4l60/e/700s really dont like have a brake in them. Talked with several high end tranny builders about putting on in the s10 and they advised against it. Rossler IS a high-end tranny builder, and has had a lot of very wild cars run their trannies. you'll also need a different cross member and a way to mount the torque arm if you run the 400. http://www.bmrsuspension.com/index.cfm?page=products&vehicleid=6&maincatid=55&catid=147&productid=323 They also sell bolt-in crossmember kits for the Glide, 350, and 4L80E. For the torque arm: http://www.bmrsuspension.com/index.cfm?page=products&vehicleid=6&maincatid=58&catid=168&productid=335 Though I'd just do this: http://www.bmrsuspension.com/index.cfm?page=products&vehicleid=6&maincatid=58&catid=169&productid=

I've never heard of them? :dumb: Go look at the "wild cars" that run their trannies. They sure the hell arent using a 4l60. I was just stating that 4l60s dont like transbrakes put in them. So get your panties out of a bunch and your head out of your ass.

Here is a little thread for you: http://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic-transmission/482258-4l60e-transbrake-installed-3.html I think I'll take his word/experience with it over yours.
