How to clean this

Never personally used it (German car :)), but I've heard good things about the brand.

I have, since I exclusively drive rusted junk. Works really well but you absolutely have to follow the prep instructions. It's pretty thick though and would likely cover your timing marks. You could always throw a timing tape on there after you refinish it.

You can use steel wool or a scotch bright pad. Then after it is clean you can use a white crayon (or similar marking tool) to rub over the timing marks and numbers. Then wipe off the excess. You will be left with clearly visable numbers and timing marks. Even when the rust comes back you will still be able to see your timing marks. This is how I mark the balancer on my Chevy.
