Snowflake
Im meeting a bunch of people at Tony Chans in Miami tomorrow night last minute notice. After checking out the website for the place and seeing it wasnt a typical looking Chinese joint I called to find out what the dress code was if any and they told me casual formal. WTF does that mean? Does that mean I can wear anything from casual to formal?

AngryBMW
Slacks, tucked in button up, dress shoes, no tie. Should be solid. It's better to be slightly overdressed than to be under dressed. -Marc

Dr. Pomade
Now that we've solved your problem, can we now start joking about what you could wear? For instance, I think it would be hilarious for you to show up dressed just like Don Johnson in Miami Vice. White blazer, pink shirt, sleeves pushed up, cheesy sunglasses, etc. And, when someone is like, "What's up with your outfit?" you could just calmly reply, "I've done my research on how the locals here in Miami dress, thanks." TTQ B4U
Gun is optional. http://images.art.com/images/products/large/10102000/10102415.jpg It's Miami. Anything from a business casual to honestly, a nice pair of dress jeans, button down dress shirt, nice shoes and a jacket that you can peal off when needed. Is this a business or personal meeting ? By adding formal I would take it to mean a sport coat is being requested.
Dr. Pomade
Chad, seriously, it might not hurt to call back and ask them to clarify what their dress code is. I wouldn't hesitate to ask them what they mean if someone says "casual formal" again - because that doesn't make much sense to me, either. My definitions are as follows: Business Dress - Suite Jacket and Tie Business Casual - Dockers and button down or golf shirt Dress Casual - Dress Jeans/Dockers, button down or silk T, Sport Coat Casual - Clean Casual Clothes, no sweat shirts or t shirts with writing

zeitgeist57
When I lived/worked in Florida, people hardly ever wore suits to an after-work event. It usually was still over 80 degrees after 6pm, and you were either inside and hot or outside on a patio and hot. If I was wearing a suit during the day and went to a mixer, I would ditch the tie and jacket...ergo, Marc is definitely correct. JosA.Banks/Polo/etc button-down shirt, no tie, pressed slacks and leather dress shoes will do well. However, that description leads me to believe that they want people still dressed as nicely as possible. No Ed Hardy jeans and/or Tommy Bahama "island wear" permitted! EDIT: A sport coat would be a very good idea as well...
