Unleashed
1997 Honda Civic EX Black 160,000 miles 5-Speed Sunroof Female owned Ran perfect until yesterday when an idiot, myself, torqued down the distributor when the tabs on the end of the distributor apparently weren't completely aligned with the groves on the end of the camshaft. This took a big chunk out of the end of the cam rendering it useless. I was suprised at how little effort it took to do this. I had to remove the distributor to replace a leaking heater hose underneath. I haven't pulled the valve cover, but I can tell you it will need a new camshaft. Car has not been fired since. No other known issues prior to this debacle. All maintenance followed; timing belt replaced, CV boots, ignition module, etc.. All major maintenance work done at Honda dealership and have reciepts. Some white rub marks on front left and driverside rear from pole in Starbucks Drive thru. Interior is in great shape. $1800 OBO, would like to get it out of the garage ASAP. No clue what it is worth, but should be easy to fix for those familiar with these cars. http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/742/img20111120225530.jpg http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/5420/img20111120225516.jpg Edited November 22, 2011 by Unleashed Added FS in title. 351mach11647545510
How's the distributor gear look? They are generally bronze or a softer metal and are meant to be destroyed instead of the cam gear.
Unleashed
The distributor appears to be ok, but then again I haven't taken it apart to inspect. It looks like the distributor mount on the no. 5 camshaft holder took the brunt along with the end of the camshaft. It would need replaced as well.
