They are very expensive even if you reload, way too heavy, have beastly recoil, and totally impractical. If you want a toy or safe-queen, then go for it. Most people never shoot theirs so it's easy to find a "used, unfired" one for sale. I'd highly recommend getting a .44mag, but if you buy a .50AE you can convert very easily by popping the barrel off and sticking a .44mag barrel on, then using .44mag magazines. Much cheaper to shoot and ammo is always available for .44mag. The people who usually own these are the ones who want to go to the range, talk to people for an hour about their "Big bad-ass Desert Eagle" and maybe shoot a round or two.
