TimTaylor751647545500
You drive a maxima.... Yeah, I do...but the term "rad rod" is pretty dumb. That's what I'm rolling my eyes about. But my Maxima is pretty rusted, maybe I should call it a rad rod too.

Linc5.0
Clearly it's a thrown together, pieced together hot rod. They look ratty thus rat rod. Makes sense to me.

Scotty2Hotty
Clearly it's a thrown together, pieced together hot rod. They look ratty thus rat rod. Makes sense to me. Check out Car Kulture DeLuxe magazine if you want a little inspiration. The West Coast is chalked full of the rockabilly/rat rod scene. Not sure if you wanted to go car or truck, but the market is huge. If you want to stay traditional, think Flathead, white walls, and spending some time at swap meets. A clean 3 window coupe or an F100 would be on my top 5 list of rat rod worthy beginnings. http://ckdeluxe.com/home/
Scotty2Hotty
Just another idea, but a Gasser project would be pretty sweet too.
wagner
Just another idea, but a Gasser project would be pretty sweet too. YES YES YES! Gassers are cool as hell and lots of events where you can race them. Here are some things to think about... http://www.racingjunk.com/Rat-rod/2383485/1947-chevy-pickup.html http://www.racingjunk.com/Rat-rod/2357602/67-ChopTop-Chevy-Truck-like-to-trade.html http://www.racingjunk.com/Rat-rod/2311687/41-CHEVY-RAT-ROD-TRUCK.html http://www.racingjunk.com/Nostalgia/2387818/1952-CHEVY-GASSER-ROLLER-.html
2 Sweet
I remember seeing this rat rod looking thing at a car show a couple years back, and it had long square-tubed headers, whatever you call them. Looked NICE

Gergwheel1647545492
post some pics of what you want your end result to look like Erik, I have been wanting to build an old truck for some time, just don't have the money for what i want to do. I want a old Chevy with a newer cummins in it, lowered (a little, not on the ground), chopped top and no white walls.
BigOxley
i know its not a rat rod, but a guy at my work built something like this in his garage.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/roadster2.jpg i don't think he had more than $4000 in the whole thing. the only thing he didnt do was the body and frame. he put an old straight six in it. wnaplay1647545503
Having been a member of several online rat rod forums, I can tell you, you will never get everyone to agree on what defines a "rat". It almost means something different to everyone.

TimTaylor751647545500
Traditional hot rods are some of my favorite cars & trucks (my first being a '51 chevy 3100), but you're sure to find a whole lot more info on sites like H.A.M.B. etc.
Rustlestiltskin
I'm gonna make my 63' amc 2dr rambler into a rat rod kind of deal. Have it run amazing but yet look old as dirt on the outside.
