Tshensley
I have the availability to pick a up a rough WRX sedan manual with 221k for very cheap. My concern is what is typical costs for parts such as turbo, engine, trans, clutch, and time wise to do this work myself?
BIGGU
how rough is rough. if there are engine issues be prepared engines are not cheap for a WRX

Rally Pat
How rough is rough. The 02 is the least reliable, and thus the cheapest. That shouldn't necessarily scare you away. However, its kind of gained a reputation as the "next generation DSM".
Tshensley
The interior is in good shape, the body is the scary looking area. It looks at one time, they hit a deer on the drivers side but tried to fix it. The trunk is missing the spoiler, and seems to have been that way for a decent amount of time. It does have some rust spots developed on the rear fenderwells but the Hood, fender, and driver door skin are crinkled.

ICEMAN1647545504
Run away from it. If it is as rough as you say than it means the maintenance wasn't kept up on it so it will probably need everything.
Patrick
Yeah big parts ain't cheap. Heck if its in good mechanical cheap flip it.

Kryptok
I feel like it's a waste of money. You'll be putting more money into the car than the cost of the car itself. Pictures? 500? Jesus.. I wouldn't pull the trigger on that. But that's just me.
Yasser-Hanbali
Pics of said wrx for 500 if it runs good I'd say you can't loose sell it for 2k on CL or make it a rally car!

ICEMAN1647545504
Body is rough, but how does it run. If it runs good than it's worth the $500.

Rally Pat
$500 might make it worth parting out, I would take the wheels for $100.
airwg2189
Odd, USAA quoted my 2011 WRX cheaper than an A4, Ralliart Lancer, 328i... hell, I saved money over my used Eclipse. But on topic, for $500 I'd buy it. You could make profit parting it out I'm sure, even in that condition.
zeitgeist57
In all syrisness, that's a great deal for a car you know you're going to rally or track. Even if it breaks my god, you should be able to get a few bucks for salvagable parts and scrap the rest! I'd be interested if I didn't have a couple of projects already. Maybe $50/month max I would guess.
Stallion Motorsports1647545491
Pay 500, drive it until something expensive breaks, part the heck out of it on cl, naisoc, and ebay, tow the shell to junkyard, walk away with a 150 scrap check. I have zero issues on this deal. Tom
