The old push pull throttle was all messed up so out it goes. Picked up a new single pull from MJ USA for $20. Modifed the bracket to work.

Carbs were working but not well. Rebuilt them and replaced all the screws with new stainless. I HATE phillips. Switched out the main jets from 110 to 150s. I hope this will get me close with the pods and the custom exhaust i will be making. They are easy to switch out if not.

Bike is running pretty good now. Starts first kick hot and cold. Took it around the block for the first time. More powerful than i thought it would be, but still slow compared to newer bikes.

Turn signal question. Remove them? Am i gonna get ticketed for using hand signals?

1. Put my swing arm on it

2.put my extra 600rr tail on it

3. The fact you know Tom makes me realize how small this world is. I've known Tom since I was 14 so... 14 years now

Give me the tails and swing arm this week i will get them on at some point. I'm sure 40HP needs an extended arm...

I've also known Tom since i was 15, so that's 15+ years for me.

Sorry no updates. Parts are getting to me slow and been busy on other stuff. I got my fiberglass cafe seat but it wasn’t 8.5” wide as described, more like 7” wide so it’s has to be returned. Everything else should be here soon. Waiting on some trick motobits rear sets, gold aluminum clip-ons, and a new headlight bucket.

If you ever need rears http://www.motobits.com/ is the place to go. There is cheaper stuff out there, but the guy is super cool and is making me a custom setup for the GS400 and it was still less than $200 shipped. Its the biggest ticket on the build so far, It sucked buying such nice pieces for 1978 GS400.

So i took off friday to get some crap done on the house but i got some work done on the bike also. Made some rubber washers for the gas tank mounts. The old ones where missing. Free is always good.

I removed the tach drive and tried to weld it closed. I normally am ok at welding, but this was a total mistake. It must be some crap cast aluminum that can't be welded. I'm not even gonna post the after picture. I heard a rumor that the newer 4 cylinder GS bikes have a plug because they have a electronic tach, but i can't find a thing on it. So i might have a part machined.

I got the rear tire mounted, new bearings in the rear, all the tabs removed from the swingarm, the chain all cleaned up in the parts washer, and the rearsets mounted. I will have pictures of all that tonight.

Bid on another seat today and sending the other one that doesn't fit today. I might just make a aluminum pan seat for now.

Small update, rear tire installed, new bearings, rearsets, and swing arm tabs removed. I might flip the rod to the bottom of the controls?

Tried to change the oil and found the filter cover studs are all stripped, so i have to get some new studs. The seat is becoming a huge issue, so far two dead ends on ebay. I have to finish up the controls, get the oil changed and it is ugly but road worthly. Needs paint, electronics hidden, custom exhaust, and seat and will just be slowly cleaning up the misc items as i ride it.

Flames are gone.

I need help finding a taillight that isn't gonna break the bank and looks decent with a cafe tail. LED required.
