Radio Flyer1647545514
I think it's a positive for the team if he leaves. I think his stats will increase quite a bit if he leaves too.
verse
I doubt anyone is going to give the return that Howson expects before the trade deadline. It would make much more sense to trade him at the draft if we are going to move him. It'd be alot easier to get a great return. Almost everyteam that wants him right now is too close to the cap. Scott Burnside said it best: But if I’m ownership, is this the best path for a franchise that has consistently taken the road to ruin? More specifically, is GM Scott Howson, the architect of by far the worst team in the NHL, the guy you want making what would be the most significant move in franchise history? It amazes me that ownership actually has plans to let this current management team keep control of the organization. I think Howson's asking price will be too steep for most. Add to the fact that Nash has to waive his no trade clause in his contract so that limits howson's list of teams that he can deal with. Of that, i think we can get a good return but im not confident in howson's ability to actually get the best deal possible.

BloodRed
I think it is a dumb move to trade him, but for his own career, I could see him wanting out. Also I agree that it is not a smart move to trade him at the trade deadline. Why only have 16 or so buyers when after the end of the season you will have 29 teams making offers. Also got a theory that this is a Craig Patrick "bait and switch" and Nash is on board with it. "Not good enough offer for Nash, but how about Carter/etc..." El Karacho1647545492
TSN is reporting that Vermette has been dealt to PHX, I believe for 2 picks. That frees up $3-4m in cap room does it not? I thought he was a choice initially, he just never could score on his own and ended up not clicking with any of the wingers. He was basically an overpaid faceoff specialist a la Handzus. edit: They also got a goalie! Curt McIlhenney who is probably useless Edited February 22, 2012 by El Karacho

In the end its up to Nash to waive his NTC so even if we have 29 teams offering trades it wont matter. They're also actively shopping carter anyway so thats no secret. What they need is a legit, starting goaltender (read: schneider from vancouver or Bernier from LA, yes they're backups but the consensus is they have the talent to be starters), a GOOD defensemen and a 1st round pick. At least thats what theyre asking from what i have heard. Sure when you take on 7.8mil in salary we might have to take a salary dump but as long as that dump is a UFA at the end of this season who cares. Im a big skeptic this Nail kid can fit the gaping hope nash will leave in our lineup. Thats IF we draft 1st overall (theres like a 70% chance of that?). verse
He was basically an overpaid faceoff specialist a la Handzus. This. Once I heard it was to Phoenix I was praying for the hometown kid to come our way, but alas Connor Murphy will stay in the desert. While I hate Howson and Priest this was a decent return for Vermette, but Craig Patrick will probably be in on every move from here on out and that can only help the team. Im a big skeptic this Nail kid can fit the gaping hope nash will leave in our lineup. Thats IF we draft 1st overall (theres like a 70% chance of that?). Nail will be a star, so I'm not worried about that. At this point I don't mind if we lose out next year as well b/c the #1 pick next year is going to be a superstar, Nathan McKinnon. There hasn't been a kid this hyped since Crosby and he gets a lot of comparison to Sidney. If we get both of the #1 picks the next couple years and rebuild a lot like the Pens/Hawks/Caps, maybe try to get another top 10 pick this year and select Dumba. Get a decent tender to come our way, we'll be money.

Maybe Craig Patrick is pulling all the strings and no one really knows? but if thats the case why not just get rid of howson? oh well.
