Scioto River Greenway

I heard that the City is moving forward with this. Expected to be finished in 2015.

As someone who spent over a year commuting into downtown by bike along the Scioto through North Bank Park, I'm very happy that the City is doing this, even though it's going to cost a significant amount of money to do so. For those of you working or living around downtown, I'm quite frankly taken aback by how much nicer the area has become. I look forward to seeing more on this project as it comes along!

Meh...my attitude's changed over the last few years. Columbus Commons (old City Center, now a park) is really nice, so as long as we're spending money on developing the riverfront - as opposed to redeveloping doomed parts of the city, gay marriage, whatever - I'm good with that.

Fat asses need to get out more anyway. The Scioto could be SOOOOO much better if they do this. It's got my stamp of approval.

This + Cooper Park Complex = A Better Columbus :fuckyeah:

Question is what is going on with Cooper park? Thought it was set in stone yet ppl's that should know what is going on don't, or at least they're keeping hush-hush about it.

Where the fuck does it say "we" are going to pay teh 36mil? Back your shit up nicca.

The total project cost is estimated at $35 million, with the majority of dollars being budgeted to developing the parkland along the river, installing infrastructure, relocating utilities, and reshaping the river banks to their natural state. CDDC is being tasked with taking the lead on this project as well as the public/private fund raising effort.

Right from the fucking link that Clay posted. Don't read the article or anything like that before posting, that would be too much work....

“We are going to change our city’s future by changing the course of the Scioto River,” Coleman said at a news conference to announce the project today.

CDDC President Guy Worley said today that the development group would contribute $2 million toward the project and that Battelle and the Columbus Foundation had already pledged a half-million dollars each.

“We’ll be out raising funds from other sources as well,” Worley said.

Franklin County Commissioner John O’Grady said the county has been approached for $2 million over the next four years, but that commissioners have not yet decided whether to participate.

Worley said the CDDC also will apply for state and federal grants for clean rivers. Having $21 million already pledged toward the project should help, he said. The directors of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources were both on hand today to say they support the project, but they did not pledge state money.

Article is confusing.

Total cost is $35M. They boast about one corp donating $2M, and few other half million donor stragglers, yet says they have $21M pledged? That makes no sense.

And federal "grants" aren't monies that just fall out of the sky.... ill give you one guess where it comes from.

If we don't make a play for the grant $ some other State will surely take our place.

*hippie speak activate*

This should not even be a discussion. They should already be working on this and making the water ways healthier. It wont matter how much it cost if the water system turns into complete trash anymore then it already is.

It's from the parks system budget, it's going to be spent on some park somewhere, best it be spent on something new that actually helps people. Being able to pedal from Mt Air through OSU to downtown kicks ass.

Grants and applications of tax money for public works are things that civilized countries engage in. If you don't like that, go find a country where that doesn't happen and tell me how great it is to live there. Then, spend a week in Switzerland and tell me how bad their "socialism" sucks.
