Smith & Wesson Shield 9mm review w/ Pics

I daily carry a Kimber Ultra Carry II w/Crimson Trace and love it, but its almost too nice to carry for me. I wanted a gun I can shoot, scuff and beat the shit out of and not care. I was afraid of that with a $1,000+ gun. This gun fits my needs very well and also feels great in my hands. Onto the review...

Fit and finish is great. It feels solid and tight. The mags need to be broken in, but over all they are great. I bought 100rnds of blazer ammo to put through it and a pack of Hornady Zombie Max. Not one hiccup and shoots shit and good stuff the same. It seems very accurate, hits the places I was aiming. (i don't claim to be an amazing shot). I definitely like the extended mag for my hands. The trigger feels amazing. I have an M&P full-sized and have noticed the reset seems to be inconsistent, but with the Shield it feels very crisp and consistent. I imagine S&W will adopt this trigger into their existing line. Overall I give this a 9.5/10 with the only gripe being its over $400.

Looks to be comparable size to a Kahr CW9, nice pick up

its almost identical in size to the M&P 9c. only difference is the width, and less than 1/2" on the barrel. height is the same, even a tad taller with the shield's extended mag. i put one up side to side with a 9c at vances.

Yeah the width on the Kahrs is probably close to what this is, which I loved for EDC

Not sure if I liked that the gap between the slide and slide stop is big enough to clearly see a round in the gun.

I can see them in my Glocks

I was thinking this. 2 things I didn't like about it was how thin it was (sounds crazy I know), and the trigger pull seemed a bit long. Wondering how this compares to my G26 for cc

long trigger pull isn't unusual on a self defense carry gun. It helps prevent NDs and gives you that extra moment to decide if pulling the trigger is the right choice. It's not a match gun for sure. The trigger pull on my Kel Tek P3AT is super long, but I accept that its a 10 foot gun at best. Worth while trade off for maximum concealability.

The length of the trigger isn't bad actually on this. It's shorter than my fullsized M&P it seems. The biggest difference I could tell was how the trigger resets and how consistent it was.

So if this is so comparable in size to the Kel Tecs, why pay so much more for the Shield? Names aren't worth much to me.

As many know, I love my SR9c, but I'd like to have something smaller as an option. I love the wifes S&W .38 spl and considered getting one of those, but I'm not sure yet what my next pistol will be.

Well, I was more comfortable with the way this fit in my hand. It fits the length of my palm perfectly unlike many other compacts. That and the fact that I know the set up/breakdown since I have an m&p. I paid the extra for peace of mind as well since its my main carry now. No price tag can be put on that IMO.

I absolutely agree with you on that, but is Kel Tec not that reliable? I know a few people that carry them and have shot a few, but haven't owned one myself. I'm trying to decide between a smaller carry or a full size like the P95 for a night stand gun.
