A lot of guys told me today that they loved to see the big car getting a taste of the whip on Saturday, they just wished that the speed would have been announced after the run. I enjoyed spectating today with Crawdad and his daughters and with Alex L. I got to meet 944s2 (Mike) from Dayton and made some other new non-CR friends today as well. Later in the week I'll put some of my photos up. I'm very pleased this has come to Ohio. Next race will be the first week in June. I'm beginning to wonder what the brave little Viewt would run ....... http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/emoticons/confused0006.gif

Doc1647545523
Doc, So how fast did you end up going? What did you think of the event and are you building something to run again? 1) Not sure of my top speed; a very fast glance at the 3/4 marker looked like 175 to me, but I don't trust any factory speedo to be accurate that high. I got no time slip, and the trap speed wasn't announced, but when I was getting yelled at by the Race Director he said I went through the trap at 162 with the brake lights on. I was, in fact, trying to get it down to 150 so that I would get a warning but not get booted. 2) I loved the event, but like any event, you have to judge it for what it is, not for how you'd like it to be. This is a group of mostly close-knit old timers from Maxton, some of whom also go to Bonneville regularly. A few of the real old timers ran around the time of Burt Munro (World's Fastest Indian). They're almost all great people. They come from Alaska, California, Maine, Canada, Texas. They might cut you a little slack here and there, in a friendly way, but you're not going to steamroller over them at their own event. They really don't care if you like it or not, this is the way they do it. 3) I don't build anything. It's a matter of what I buy. I admire people who do their own builds, but it's not work to which I am suited. I don't own anything other than the Bentley that's going to be impressive at a mile. I've thought of seeing what the 999 will do, but that would just be for the experience of riding it that fast. If I entered the Viewt, it would be for comic relief. I'll most likely just spectate for the 3 remaining events of 2012. I think it would be more fun if we took a big group from CR there, set up a shelter, cooked out, and had a good time. Get away from the group when you want to talk with the drivers/come together at the shelter when you want to jaw with your buddies. Heck, it's only an hour from Columbus, cost for the whole weekend of spectating is only $15 ($10 for one day), young kids get in free, servicemen get in free. Hard for me to imagine skipping this if you're into fast cars or into car shows.

I like your Idea, I also feel the same way about the event that you described to me on Sun with the addition that it is GREAT for Wilmington to have. Brings in money and attention for them and awesome that something this cool and rare is this close to us. My friend is hoping to enter one of the events this summer with his turbo Busa that he is building right now (me bench racing it) he would like to break 200 for sure and is shooting for 220. Doc1647545523
It was good meeting you and your buddy, Mike. I'm glad to came up to me and spoke. Yeah, the Busas really rule that event. It's a lot of work pushing a bike around in the line all day, but some of those old geezers did it, and a few did it without their pit vehicles nearby for them to sit in and get warm. Hats off to those who put up with the cold, wind, rain and still got some runs in.
SpaceGhost
So sit on a bike and try to hit 200 all day long and 135 in a sportscar with no cage or get kicked out? Really?
Doc1647545523
So sit on a bike and try to hit 200 all day long and 135 in a sportscar with no cage or get kicked out? Really? Yep. You're still stuck back in that trying-to-be-logical mode. There were contraptions there that I would be afraid to take over 30, but they were, by the rules, ok'd to do 150-175. It's about rules with these guys, not about what's logical or reasonable. That's one criticism that I had heard about them for years -- they don't adapt to the changing technology and they'll go the way of the dinosaurs. A Veyron, on its first trip down the track Saturday, would be limited to 125. All later runs could go to 135. Faster would be considered "unsafe." :lolguy: This was all hashed-out in the CR thread months ago when it was first announced that Wilmington was a go for the ECTA. That's why people concluded that without a cage, it was either a glory run and get booted, or else not worth entering.

Doc1647545523
Lots of photos from the Ohio Mile posted all over the place .... much better than my pics, but I'll put a few more here if I didn't already see a similar one. Also, at the end, I took some pics from on the runway itself to give you a driver's view of things.
