SilverAudiMike
Any idea what this spider is? Apparently my dog tried eating it and got bitten. http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o228/smokineagle/353ea6bb.jpg
Orion
Jumping Spider. We have those ALL OVER our garden. Very common in Ohio. I actually try to keep those in the garden, as they eat tons of baddies.
iwashmycar
x2 . Was thinking "black house spider" but they look less hairy
SilverAudiMike
Any worries about a 25lb dog being bitten by one?
RyM3rC
I know those little guys. They're super quick, it looks like they teleport themselves a few inches at a time but I've never been bitten by one I don't think. It's definitely not one of the dangerous evil spiders we have around here, so I wouldn't worry.
iwashmycar
They sound harmless. Probably just going to have a little red spot for a bit. Just make sure the dog doesn't bother with it too much.
ImUrOBGYN
It's all been said. Harmless jumping spider. It's also been proven they're smarter than some of your kids. Seriously, they have the ability to make concious, multi-step plans and decisions. One of my favorite spiders and incredible hunters. Many of them you can even feed by hand if you knock a fly out for them. Try not to jump when it leaps for the fly.

As in, targets them as meals that it prefers over other meals. Pretty damn awesome.
Putty
Nothing a shoe sole should have to worry about. Did the pooch yelp?
SilverAudiMike
Nothing a shoe sole should have to worry about. Did the pooch yelp? I wasn't at home when it happened but the girlfriend says he did. I assume all is well since I have not heard anything more of it today. He should be fine unless he has some weird allergic reaction.

Many of them are spider eaters, though. They have the strength, intelligence and speed. I have a 'battledome' where any roaming spiders, centipedes and the like that I find in the home are placed in to battle it out for supremacy. Last summer, a large female jumping spider like the one pictured, ruled the roost for months. One of the coolest things was watching her dive bomb a fly in mid air and tumble to the ground with it in her jaws still. You watch closely and you can also see how different her approach was with something dangerous and/or bigger than her.
Drewhop
I found one of those on a walking path last year that was about the size of a half dollar. Wife told me to smash it. I told her it was the largest hopping spider I had ever seen. I let it live. Cool spiders insane speed if you watch them
