It's a Double Star, which from what I've heard is a newer brand but already in the top brands. Anyone know any more about this company? Yeah I probably should have done the research beforehand, but it was too good of a deal to pass up. I know this is likely heavily opinion based, but we'll go with that. Nice AR! I'm wanting to pick one up in the next year or so myself. Top Teir: Colt, LMT, Noveske, Larue, KAC, LaRue, Daniel Defense, and LWRC. Can't go wrong with any of them. They all have contracts with the US Gov and held to very strict standards. I still consider these top Teir eventhough they don't have gov. contracts. They are all in strict accordance with the TDP. Sabre Defence, BCM and POF. Second Teir: Stag, S&W, RRA, CMMG, Bushmaster/windam weaponary, Armalite, these are all good rifles. But they are made specificilly for the civilian market. You know the govt uses the lowest bidder for everything, right? contractors also have to be able to put out product to their spec and produce in enough volume. Bushmaster can crank out the volume but is just at spec. LMT primarily does mil contract and does it very well. Colt is king. RRA and DPMS don't have that great of a rep. Remington is filling a contract for M4s now. They'll either meet specs and be accepted or they won't and they'll be rejected. Radio Flyer1647545514 Posted May 15, 2012 Report Share Posted May 15, 2012 A top tier AR is a built AR IMHO. I've got Mega, DD, RR and Armalite parts in my gun. Nice purchase. Now get it out to the range and find out what ammo you want to start shooting through it. See what twist the barrel has to get an idea of what type of ammo grain will work best in it. They are no colt, but it will get the job done for a beginners AR. But for the money, there are better out there. CMMG bargin bin is where I start. I had an MIM take down lever in my DSA built Stg58 and it snapped in two after about 100 rounds! You'd never see that happen with one of the military surplus parts that were machined out of a block of forged steel.
