Cheap and Ultralight are not used in the same sentence.

What is the top dollar, and what is the most weight?

Yeah, I realize cheap and light do not compute. I want a balance of both, probably no more than $100. And for that fact, I will probably buy that small $5 tent in a tube thing on the one website randy listed. I am not adverse to gettin weird in the woods.

Ill probably get my pack, a bag, and that tent and rock all that for awhile, then upgrade.

Ahh..... Give me a few... I might have a link to a tent that fits that budget...

I have a CampRight popup tent and it's really quite light.

It's a little different in that it isn't the type you stuff in a sack. It folds into a round disc shape. Depending on how your pack is laid out, maybe you could simply attach it to the back of the pack? Might be a little awkward, but if you can carry it easilly enough, setup and teardown are retardely easy and quick. It's pretty well made for <$100 too.

tarp, rope, or man-up and use a sleeping bag under the stars. I don't see Bear Grills or whatever using a tent, he constructs a sleeping area.

You are suggesting he forgoes water, and just drinks his own piss as well?

:gabe:

This is what I'm doing for our survival trip.

You can get an old military hammock with a built-in roof and bug screen for pretty cheap at surplus stores or online. They're pretty comfy. I just don't like that since it's not free standing you can't necessarilly put it exactly where you'd like (FWP).

Thanks. I'll check the local GI Depot. Got a cheapo hammock for this trip at Wally World for $25. I found a few like you mentioned online for $50 but wouldn't have gotten it in time.

Tarp + hammock. You'll never want to sleep on the ground again.

This guy knows what's up. While we are on the subject

then http://www.eaglesnestoutfittersinc.com/product/PROST001.html

and then add http://www.eaglesnestoutfittersinc.com/product/PFS001.html

See the picture of the fat bag in the first link? It is about 5 inches long and hooks to any existing bag you have. It barely weighs anything. I take it with me on any trip or flight. It never gets in the way. Thing is boss. If it is warm outside and not raining you don't need the rain tarp. I might suggest at least laying on a blanket or a sleeping bag. Depending on the wind at night it will blow under the hammock and make your ass cold.

I love my hammock it so much I have eye bolts in my living room to hang it. Nothing like watching netflix and swinging in a hammock.

Nice, but my hammock cost $25 and my tarp cost ~$4. I'm too poor for all that yuppy outdoor gear. lol
