KillJoy Yeah, I realize cheap and light do not compute. I want a balance of both, probably no more than $100. And for that fact, I will probably buy that small $5 tent in a tube thing on the one website randy listed. I am not adverse to gettin weird in the woods. It folds into a round disc shape. Depending on how your pack is laid out, maybe you could simply attach it to the back of the pack? Might be a little awkward, but if you can carry it easilly enough, setup and teardown are retardely easy and quick. It's pretty well made for <$100 too. You can get an old military hammock with a built-in roof and bug screen for pretty cheap at surplus stores or online. They're pretty comfy. It's not ultralight, but it definitely gets the job done. I would also advise against getting a 1-person, unless you like having almost no room in your tent. Got a cheapo hammock for this trip at Wally World for $25. I found a few like you mentioned online for $50 but wouldn't have gotten it in time. It is about 5 inches long and hooks to any existing bag you have. It barely weighs anything. I take it with me on any trip or flight. It never gets in the way. Thing is boss. If it is warm outside and not raining you don't need the rain tarp. I might suggest at least laying on a blanket or a sleeping bag. Depending on the wind at night it will blow under the hammock and make your ass cold. I love my hammock it so much I have eye bolts in my living room to hang it.
