STEVE-O
Clifford this is asked like once a week. And to agree with Jones you get what you pay for and a color change is not cheap

Green Bastard
it could help cut down the cost if some shops still allow you to mask the car yourself for a discount, I'm not sure how much it would help with going a different color though. smokin5s
things have changed in the past 10 years, I remember about 10 years ago, I did a color change for like 250, paint was good, never had any problems with it for years that I kept the car afterwards. TurboNova
^ been said by a ton of painters and cheap asses, if you do some of your own prep work and detail taping they can do an ok cheap paint job. its all in the prep which I have no patience for. I recommend Mike@bob boyd lincoln. He is the manager and will hook you up, tell him dan sent you. He had already done work for a few people on here that I have sent him. AudiOn19s
I guess here's something nobody has asked. Is this a vehicle you care about? intend to have for some time? Want to be able to show off to people and have pride in it? If you answer yes to any of the above cheap should not be a word used anywhere near the subject of paint. Devil is in the details when it comes to prepping something so that it will look spectacular once it's sparyed. You will forever regret the decision to paint if you let budget drive the quality of work. This is afterall something you'll be looking at, rubbing down, etc for a very long time. If it's a daily driver / beater, something you intend to dump in a couple years then screw it, do all the prep yourself, mask it up the best you can and drop it at Maaco. I still owe Dan a beer for the referral.

copperhead
To do a complete color change correctly you are talking somewhere in the ballpark of 40 hours labor plus materials. You tell me what that is worth.
TurboNova
ive seen plenty of very nice paint jobs done by people including jambs keeping same color or shade of for 2-2500 ball park. obviously you can knit pick it but overall it still comes down to get what you pay for. Id never pay big bucks for a car that gets driven thats for sure. The first knick or rock chip will make you sick
spectragod
What do you think in your head is a good price for a decent paintjob? It would depend on the amount of bodywork needing done, if you want the car stripped to the bare metal and the amount of dis-assembly involved. Most shops that do high end work will want to strip the car completely and completely dis-assemble said vehicle, the only way to stand behind your work is to know what's underneath. That said, I have a buddy with a shop that does all over work, mostly high end cars, he starts at 11k if no or minimal body work is needed. For a scuff and shoot with a moderate amount of dis-assembly, 3-4k is what another buddy of mine charges. I think that you would have to shop around and ask questions, such as whats included, single stage paint, warranty, if body repair is included etc.
TurboNova
For example this car was less then 2g to have painted and some repair ... and waterbased paint before http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y216/1972nova/DSC00672.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y216/1972nova/DSC00668.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y216/1972nova/DSC00662.jpg After http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y216/1972nova/DSC00968.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y216/1972nova/IMG_6757.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y216/1972nova/IMG_6755.jpg
