saw one of these the other day on sawmill and 161. was out to dinner and it was backed in out front. it was a maroon color with no plates on it. I looked everywhere and had no plates. saw the guy get out and he was pretty young. must work for Tesla I would assume.

The more I read/watch about thist car, the more I like it. I would love to have one as a daily, and it would even be possible to drive to Columbus from Detroit. It seems to be priced right (with the small battery) but they're going to be in such short supply I doubt I would be able to get as good a deal on a Tesla as I did on my Volt.

Me two, we were pricing a small battery one a bit over 60k though. That's a tad high, I mean crap we could buy an awfully nice gas car for $40-45k (BMW335xi comes to mind). Granted we spend $250 in gas a month on one car and you could essentially roll that $$ into the payment since you wouldn't pay for gas for it anymore. I think they claim $6-7 a month to charge it?

The $6-7 month old depend upon your driving habits. If you drive 250 miles a month, this would be correct. The Tesla uses about $0.02 per mile of electricity, an average car uses $0.16 per mile of gasoline. The average driver drives 1000 miles a month, so gas would be $160 vs. $20 of electricity for the Tesla. While it is less expensive to operate you need to look at maintainence also. There is none on the Tesla, I have had my roadster over two years with nothing other than a software upgrade. No fluids, oil......etc. To buy one is more of a statement than a huge cost saving. While cheaper to run, the initial cost is more. I love driving past the fuel stations......which is a statement.

As stated, I got my new Model S today. Here is my impression of the first 20 miles in the car.

 

 

Okay, the quick down and dirty version with more updates to follow. This car is freaking amazing, it is unbelievably fast, 0 to 60 in about four seconds. The interior is somewhat sparse and lacking, the large screen in the middle of the dash is a little obtrusive, as you just are not used to it. But it does look pretty cool and almost like something out of the future. The lack of bolsters in the seats is really my only major concern. The car, due to its acceleration capabilities as well as exceptional cornering and handling really needs a good bolstered seat. This would be my only complaint about the car thus far. Although a quick second, would be lack of cupholders in the backseat.

 

The key fobs looks like a small matchbox version of the car. It has three unidentifiable buttons on the top, one opens the front truck, the second one opens this the rear trunk and the third opens and locks the doors. When you approach the car with fob in your pocket the doorlatch projects out from the body of the car as they are flush when locked and driving. You grab the handle, it does not pull out, the door just openes. The car will light up the interior when you open the door, but the dash stays dark until you sit in the seat. Once in the seat the entire dash lights up and the car is now "on" there is no on or off switch or key. Since the car is now on you can push the Mercedes type gear shift on the column. Hit the accelerator and be surprised. Like I said this car is silly fast. Handling is very good for a sedan, I would equate it with some extremely nice BMWs or Mercedes. Suspension seems a little stiff, but the car is brand-new. I am noticing on the dash that there are some settings for ride height as well as suspension capability. I will play with these and see if they make a difference. That's enough for now, I'm going to do some more driving and test this thing out. I will follow up more later as well as will provide more pictures, but my initial impressions are extremely impressive and I am excited to own this vehicle as a daily driver

Very nice! I was skeptical when it was first announced, but this car has won me over. They did a great job with it. However, I do agree with your comments about the screen. When driving, sometimes I've found it difficult to hit buttons on a touch screen witout taking my eyes off the road, like I could with normal buttons. I'm sure I'll eventually get used to it, and with the S it's going to depend on if the buttons move about the screen or if they are 'locked' in a certain location.

 

I'm looking forward to the full review.

I agree, but to answer your question, the scenes can be interchanged but not the buttons. Meaning you can move the radio screen from top to bottom along with the Nav screen.

Another question: The Volt has a remote start button on the FOB so I can pre-heat or pre-cool the cabin. This is especially helpful with the Volt since the heater uses a lot of battery power, so I can pre-heat the car while its plugged in. You said the S's FOB only has trunk and lock/unlock, so can you not do something like this? Or can you program the car for a departure time so it will do this automatically?

Not yet, but it is on the future upgrades. However, with over 350 miles on a charge, I am not worried about battery drain and the warm up is super fast. No waiting for an engine to warm up, its electric!

Yeah, that's out of our price range, I'd love to own one, but even the $60k for the entry level is hard for us to pull the trigger. (The $7500 off is a tax break if others here didn't know, so you will pay almost $60k for a base with no options and over $60k with a couple options.)

 

Question 2 if you don't mind, do you have the rear facing seats?

 

I like the idea and appeal of the Model X AWD and 2 motors, but I am guessing that crossover is $100k plus to start like the roadster.

 

My wife, Myself and a friend of mine would love to see one of these in person, our friend is almost sold and wants to buy but the wait is what is turning him off. He lives in Dublin and was glad to hear the repair center is going in there. He's a Mercedes guy, I'm quite surprised he is thinking of moving away from them. I also think when he sees how plain it is inside, it might make him stay away too.

 

We can get a really nice AWD Audi, AWD BMW for $60k.

I appreciate it, I'd like to take you up on that, I left a voicemail for my friend to see if he is still interested, he works at the New Albany surgical center, and I believe you live in New Albany so he is on this side of town often.

True, it's a bigger deal on a 35 mile battery. I will be interested to see how your range decreases in the winter, not that you'll be pushing 350 mile drives a lot.
