Otis Nice
...please? Long story short dad has commisioned my brother and I to build him a defense shotgun. His requirements: - 12g - $600 or less total build. - He can't know about it until Christmas. That's it. That's the parameters. I've been looking at the Benelli Nova, of course the 870, the 887 nitromag, the 500, and a few others. If you had a $600 budget, all tacticool (see a sling and pistol grip) included, what would you purchase and why? It doesn't need to be over the top. Prob mount a light and sling as mentioned and that's it. Any certain lights? I prefer my Surefire. What other options are there? Anyone recommend any certain sights? This will be used for HD and HD only. We have plenty of field shotguns of various setups. Thanks in advance all.

Not Brian
red dot sight with extended mags and the quickdraw perk
Ahmadi6490
I've heard great things about the nitromags...but personally I would get a SAIGA 12 for $599.

Scotty2Hotty
590A1 = Complete Package http://www.kygunco.com/prodimages/23979-DEFAULT-L.jpg $550 realm is normal for a 590A1. That's my choice, and I own a few 870's and a 590A1.
RedRocket1647545505
Spend a little more and get a 930 SPX.
jerrodh
One more vote for the 590's I like the slide release location so much better on the mossbergs than the rems.
Otis Nice
So after taking this advice here's some of the ones I'm looking at. Not necessarily going to Vances but just an idea. 930 Blackwater 590A1 Persuader 930 SPX Really leaning toward that SPX right now. Thanks for the advice so far. I hadn't even thought of a few of these.
EssFo
I've got the 500 spx. Love it.
stangsn95gt
Only thing I don't like about the mossbergs with pistol grips is the safety position. Other than that I've thought about picking up a 930.

Radio Flyer1647545514
I would get a saiga 12ga as well. Only I'd have more than 600 in it to have it complete to my likings. As far as a light, I've been more than pleased with my OLight and it's a money saver compared to other lights.
Otis Nice
So after a talk with my brother and a trip to OVO today we put this in lay away. It's a bit out of the price range but mom wanted to go in and pay the difference. The gun felt great and I can't wait to get ahold of it. One reason I went with a slightly pricier firearm which didn't leave us room to build on is this: Assembling it with your Dad ~ $PRICELESS!!! KillJoy The thought of getting a great base to start with and accessorizing WITH dad instead of FOR dad will mean a lot more to all of us. It will be something we can build together AND gives us room to buy him accessories for his birthday, fathers day, etc. Thank you all so much for the help. I'll add pics to this thread when I get it out and as we build it.

Hahn
590A1 = Complete Package http://www.kygunco.com/prodimages/23979-DEFAULT-L.jpg $550 realm is normal for a 590A1. That's my choice, and I own a few 870's and a 590A1. This is my next shotgun most likely. One more vote for the 590's I like the slide release location so much better on the mossbergs than the rems. The slide release and the safety especially for LH shooters. Only thing I don't like about the mossbergs with pistol grips is the safety position. Other than that I've thought about picking up a 930. I never thought of that with the pistol grip. Good point.
Otis Nice
Not at all, I would have no problem using one for HD That's good to know. I'm pretty excited to pick this thing up and tweek it. Already looking at stocks, big button safety killjoy recommended with the 870, and a DMW easy loader. As stated though, the build will come later.
