Aaron
So our dogs have fucked up our carpet. I want to get something in the living room, probably a laminate hardwood of some sort. What can I expect to pay for the flooring, and/or installation. Places to buy? Recommendations? I'd be open to tile of some sort in the kitchen too, but that'll probably be down the road. evan9381
$2-4/sq foot, higher depending on quality. Do it yourself. Ive done 3 large rooms in my house, and done work for some others. Its not hard
Aaron
From what I have found, you can get engineered hardwood for about the same price as laminate. Why wouldn't I go that route?
evan9381
It just depends on what you like and what you want to spend. You said you have dogs, i have scratch resistant stuff in my kitchen....the guy at Lowes handed me a sample and said "here take your keys and scratch this" I tried, and couldn't get it to mark. might be something to look into if your dogs tore up carpet
Aaron
Apparently if you purchase the engineered hardwood with a thick finish layer, it can be refinished almost as many times as straight hardwood. I'll have to do some shopping around and see what we like.
06busa
We went with a laminate flooring because of our boxer, knowing it would hold up well.
LJ
Pergo. Real look and feel of hardwood. Comes in single planks so it looks like real hardwood (not the obvious 3 pieces per plank and obviously fake looking). They also have a lifetime warranty against any type of wear. I put it in my old house. Not only did the dog's nails never scratch it, but the resin coating on the pergo is so hard that it ruined a $50 saw blade from doing 700 sq ft.
