Anyone remember these? i remember my folks used to take us down along the scioto to watch these when i was little...even better, does anyone have any pics/videos of these? i know its a longshot as camcorders and stuff were not as readily available as they are now. discussing this with a few people and wanted to try to find an example.

i found an article online about it from the dispatch, but its just a flashback article, im having no luck on youtube.

i know it's a long shot, but i figure this is my best shot besides what i've already searched.

I remember the laser light shows. Was pretty short-lived, but was pretty fun as a kid.

Here's a few that I found.

Crowds packed the amphitheater on the west side of the Scioto River at sunset on July 24, 1988, to watch lasers dance across the marble face of the State Office Building at 65 S. Front St.

The show, which had kicked off the night before as the finale of that year’s Riverfest, attracted an estimated 4,000 people.

A laser installation atop the old Central High School building — what is now COSI Columbus — fired up nightly through Aug. 27 and again on the Labor Day weekend that year.

The free 45-minute “Columbus, Discover the Light” show featured pop, patriotic and country music to lasers drawing designs on the building, which is now home to the Ohio Supreme Court, across the river.

“On the side of the building appear animated characters and geometric designs that are six floors tall,” The Dispatch reported. “Singer James Brown performs his spirited Living in America hit tune while accompanied by the music. There’s a trip inside a drip of water and a popular segment on Ohio heroes ranging from Thomas Edison to Woody Hayes.”

“As far as we know, we’re breaking ground with this,” James W. Barney, Columbus’ Recreation and Parks Department director, said before the first show. “This is the first laser show we know about done in a downtown on a regular basis.”

Promoter Tara Barney, Barney’s wife, said, “If it is a success, next year it could become a summerlong event. It would be fabulous to have it at night as another Downtown attraction to coincide with the opening of the Columbus City Center,” she said.

The show returned each year through 1992, when it and Riverfest ended their Columbus run. Columbus City Center, a Downtown mall, opened in 1989 and was razed in 2009.

Ben said they still do them. I've seen that article, is there something I'm missing that says that they still do them? That's the "more info?" I was asking for from him.

Went to one when I was quite young. Thought it was lame. Though, I went in expecting lasers like in Star Wars.

Amen to this one... I'm 33 and remember them but I remember how disappointed they were to me because they were not like Star Wars. lol
