Juicy's LS3 C5Z build, redeux

Just figured I would document the changes that have been going on this winter. For those that dont know, I cracked a piston ring land in November racing. Instead of just replacing the cracked piston, I got caught up in the "might as wells" and ended up blowing my drivetrain funds to redo the powertrain... So now I will really be worried about how long this stock drivetrain will last before I am forced to upgrade/replace....

here is the last build:

http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101372

Here are the upgrades:

Modifying the TFS235 heads; opening the exhaust port diameter and doing a nitrous port valve job and replacing the intake valves with LS3 hollow-stem valves.

Not a whole lot of pictures this time around, other than some random parts. I plan on taking more of the engine work and assembly... and will for the fabrication stuff (oil cooler fab, and standalone tank)

Dat head :)

Same head as last year... just sent them back to have the exhaust port opened up and a nitrous-port and valve job added, as well as LS3 intake valves to drop the valvetrain mass... and for some reason that I still havent had answered, they milled another 0.05" off the heads....

  • 6 months later...

I will be back with more details later, but wanted to make a quick update before heading down to Gatlinburg for hte weekend. :D

Got the car on the dyno for a couple base pulls (no tuning). Here is a plot compared to my setup last year. Definitely room to open it up. First and foremost getting rid of the 2.5" stock axle-back exhaust.... a friend of mine with a 427 c5z on the same dyno picked up 20whp by taking off the stock ti exhaust...

Either way, it rips good on motor on the street... now for the giggle gas...
