Anyone into building Models?

I used to build/try to build Tamiya, Revell, BBarugo, etc when I was younger, and recently picked up a good amount of Modelmaster paints and a brand new Tamiya R34 GTR V-Spec kit. Just painted it today in the darkest purple I could find, and will do a second layer tonight. I've only ever finished a few (Calsonic Gr. A GTR, Denso Supra, R10LMS, MP4/4), but now it's my free-time thing to do. Anyone else big into building these? I gotta say, it's pretty addicting building them...

I used to build tons of models when I was young. Might have to swing to the hobby store and pick one up for old times sake.

My current build, first coat of paint on now. Color should be close to, or right on Midnight Purple when I get another coat on

That is awesome. Are pieces swap-able like that or do they require some serious modification? I got into models right before my last move but never dug everything back out. What kind of "workshop" do you use? a dedicated desk?

I have done so many since I was a kid. Haven't done one in years though and think I still have my airbrush and compressor kit and a ton of paint stashed away some where. Can't wait for my son to get old enough to get back into it lol

I used to build a lot but not so much since the kids came along. My favorite car is the Firebird so I have a bunch of those and I really like old race cars. Here are a few of the better ones.

Here are a few more. Years ago a friend wanted to build a mustang II so I built the ridiculous burple one so show him what it would look like done. He then sold the car.

Those are crazy well built! I'm wondering the same, how do you go about modifying them?

alot of the peices i have from other cars or a make myself.i work at a model shop i work with this kind of stuff allday so most of my work is done their on lunch or atfer work in the winter.the suspension was custom on the 56 i took some old springs and made them fit and look right

I built a ton as a kid, then started to get back into them in my late teens/early 20s but never finished those ones. I think about getting them out of the crawl space every once in a while and finishing them up but never actually do it lol. Any time my wife drags me into a hobby store I check them out, but the prices are crazy! Last time I bought one new they were $8-12, now they're $20+. The real kicker is most of them are just reissued kits that can probably be found on eBay for $10 for the original.

years ago I built a lot of models. Haven't done one in years though....it's a lack of time thing. The last thing I worked on was helping my son with his boy scout project a couple years ago. This was actually pretty fun. We bought another kit and at some point we're going to do a truck....again....time thing.

Keep in mind this was done by a 7 year old with my assistance. I helped cut the exhaust and the scoop into a rough shape but he mounted, sanded, and painted them.

I probably did hundreds of plane and car models when I was younger, into my pre-teens. Yes, insert "Clay was exposed to a LOT of glue fumes at an early age" comment here. :)

I would definitely love it if my kids were interested in models, but we will see. I simply have too many other responsibilities/hobbies to get back into this one. It definitely served it's purpose in making me the gearhead I am today!

HobbyTown USA in Gahanna had some under $20 yesterday, they have a big amount of US made models, and lots of trucks, boats, planes, too
