Wease
Well my 2001 Grand Am that my step daughter drives back and forth to school finally bit it Sunday. The trans had been slipping and now it won't go into reverse. Fortunately, it's stuck in my driveway, not down at UC. It's got 198K on it, some body rust (it was an upstate New York car for a while), but everything works and it runs fine. Given the mileage and condition, I'm not putting any money into it, but someone else might want to. Do you guys think I'd be better off scrapping it or trying to sell it? xlr8tn
find out the scrap value and then it wouldn't hurt to try to sell it first and make a few extra dollars. Scrap yard will always be there. That's what I would do.
Drewhop
Toss it on Craigslist for 500 bucks. More money then scrapyard and someone will buy it.
Green Bastard
I would try selling it first. If nobody buys it you could try to part some of the good parts out if you have the time and patience, then scrap the rest.
Turbs3000
most of those "We buy cars" folks will give you about $500 for a running vehicle. Thats what we did with our old van and it worked out great. Just face it forwards so when they drive it onto the flat bed it 'works just fine' Depending on your time frame (you sound like you don't care if it sits for a bit) Try to sell it for $1000, accepting any offer over $4-500, worse case you junk it. cstmg8
If you go the scrap route, cut the cats off first. I just turned mine in for $100.
cstmg8
Maybe a few other parts that are worth more separately also, aluminum maybe?

Buck531
My brother had a 97 grand am that the trans bit the dust as well. He put an ad on CL for $400 and within hours it was gone.

mustangman2011
Did you end up selling it or scrapping it? I am kind of in the same situation now. Is there sites with going rates of metal etc?
Wease
I actually had a friend fix it (well, he's still working on it) and I'm going to sell it after that.
