New to Rock Climbing

So the wife and I decided we wanted to get into rock climbing and bought the basic essentials, harness', rope, ATC. Plan on climbing the wall at Scioto park then elsewhere. I used to work at the rock wall in the Westerville Rec Center back in high school, but that was pretty limited climbing and havent really done it since and this is the wifes first time. Just seeing if anyone on here is avid climbers and or has any tips on anything.

You really ought to check out Vertical Adventures off Busch Blvd. A lot of good routes that change frequently, from skill levels beginner to advanced.

Up until a year ago or so, I hadn't been climbing as frequently as I used to. I used to manage the climbing wall at Galyan's before and shortly after it changed over to Dick's Sporting Goods. The wall was a 47 1/2' wall, which made it one of three tallest indoor walls at the time. I was climbing and bouldering that thing day in and day out for years. We had a lot of really good climbers come in that taught me quite a bit. I was climbing routes as hard as 5.10/5.11 but the rating system has changed in the past few years, and not really sure where I stand anymore. I could probably get my core strength back after some time, but I really miss having the chance to climb every day.

Anyhow, I'll help if I can.. I wanna get going again with my lady.

Ive been in Vertical Adventures, but never climbed. Going to start with the free outdoor wall at Scioto park because......free. Then eventually move into sport climbing, etc. I hear ya on the core strength part though, its been a while since ive climbed, and ive put on some extra weight to move up a wall.

I keep planning to make a trip to take the class at Vertical Adventures, can't find anyone to go with. Here soon I'm looking to get into it.

You can go by yourself and take a class. You can also climb there yourself since they have some auto belay rigs set up.

I don't know if anyone that commented in this thread actually started climbing yet. I go to Vertical Adventures at least 3 times a week now so if anyone is looking to climb I'm always willing to go or, for anyone looking to take the class I'll go with you so you have someone to belay and you can get certified.

I took my first trip to the Red River Gorge last week and the climbing there is great, I can't wait to get back there when it warms up again. Most of the climbers I talked to there said RRG is some of the best sport climbing in the world next to Spain.

Here is the first outdoor lead route I did. 85ft 5.10a
