new daily means project coyote can start

i picked up a 04 explorer last month for 550 bucks with 120,7xx miles that needed a motor. i had it towed home where it set for 2 weeks while i went back in fourth on either to rebuild the motor or just drop another in. needless to say after diving into how to time the damn thing i decided option 2 was better. i got lucky and found a motor from an 04 with only 66k on it. paid 850 for the motor and 50 bucks in gas to go out to bfe and pick it up. i put new valve cover gaskets on it and swapped over my intake and fuel rails and tb as mine is a flex fuel motor and the one i got was not. got it all finished up last night and today went out and put a 150 miles on it today. so far total investment is around 1,700 bucks in it.

now the best part of this is i can now put the mustang in garage and start on it. :)

for the mustang ive been debating on either turbo 2v or a 4v swap from a termi. but after driving a new 5.0 gt and loving the response of the new coyote motors ive decided a coyote motor is what needs to find it way into the engine bay of my new edge. 400-420 rwhp all motor will be just about perfect for what i want to car to do. now my plans for it are going to start with tearing the motor and trans out and sending it out to have the 1/4 fixed and repaint. after that im going to pull the rear out and have 3.73's installed and a new posi unit as mine is not worth a damn. suspension wise im still up in the air. i want it to handle well enough to have fun with it for autocross some track days here and there but also still be able to do 1/4 mile every now and then as well as it be good street car. prefer to stay away from coil overs because no i not a thing about them though lol. ill let cr help me when the time comes for suspension choice.

That's awesome. Always nice to find a nice cheap car that blew up the motor and drop a cheap one in and have a new ride for cheap.

What happened to the old motor? The one that was in the truck when you got it?

Well it had no compression. It over heated massively enough to melt the knock

Sensor and make the overflow tank bulge massively. After pullin the water pump off and the bearings being trashed my guess is water pump failure and over heated massively. Lady said she was driving down 270 when all a sudden it just lost all power. I'd bet it also massively pushed he head gaskets as even the intake was full of colant oil mix. Ironically. The chains and teninors in it are in great shape. I have a extra set of heads for it if someone wanted to build a good motor out of it but in sure heads on it are warped massively lol.

Aren't barebone coyote crate motors like $9k

6,300 for the crate motor the. 1,600 for the control pack. Headers, oil pan, powerstering bracket, a/c bracket, return fuel system and its turn the key to a 11 second car.

Don't forget you'll need to modify the oil pan, or go to an aftermarket k member for the coyote to fit right. They do bolt in essentially, just gotta do something with the oil pan as I read it. Sounds like it will be a fun car.

Yeah the pan is cheap to retain factory k member. If I go with a tubular I can use the stock pan I'm pretty sure. I will be using this car for more autocross the. Strip so want it to be able to do both effectively.

Here is a 04 gt with a coyote. He has a new best of 11.08 but can't find the video
